I walked to the fridge and touched it, looking at it curiously. I decided to push it aside and unlike I had expected, the fridge moved out of the way easily.
It didn’t even have any weight. It was fake.
The door didn’t have a door knob or a way to open it and I looked at it up and down.
I slightly pushed the door with my hands and to my surprise, I heard a loud creaking sound. The walls parted into two sides and even the door shifted with one side of the wall, opening a door sized path before me.
That’s incredible.
I walked in and it lead to a small narrow room.
What the heck! What was the purpose of all that dramatic wall opening and secretive path when all it lead to was a tiny and narrow room that could barely fit four people.
I was about to walk out when I noticed the sound of the floor beneath me. I stopped walking and gently stomped my foot on the floor to listen to the sound.
That makes sense. There’s something under this place.
I slowly bent down and knocked on the floor, listening to the sound it produced and trying to determine an entry point into whatever was under this place.
I finally stopped moving my hand and as pushed tjr floor. A square shaped board went a little lower beneath the floor then I slipped my fingers through a little available hole and I pushed it under.
There was a flight of steps right beneath the floor. I took a look around again and sigged before climbing into the stairs. As soon as I set foot in, the dark stairs was immediately illuminated be light bulbs.
Hmmm. Remote sensor lights.
I continued climbing down the stairs till I reached the foot and I walked into a very large room.
I gasped as I looked around the room. There were several dead bodies around the room and there was blood all over the room.
I slowly walked through the room, taking a look at the dead bodies as I walked.
I stopped walking, shocked to see a familiar face lying dead on the floor. This was one of the men who were supposed to be around the corner when I meet Nicole and then follow her.
What’s happening? Why am I seeing all of this? When would I get out of this stupid portal. I thought it brought back only memories, but all these were things I’ve never seen.
I continued walking, but then I gasped and froze in place, spotting someone else lying dead on the floor.
“Lycian.” I croaked out in fear and looked at the drying blood flowing out of his gutted throat. Lycian!
What am I seeing? What’s all of this?! I had barely processed the horrific image before me when I saw myself lying on the floor next to Nathan.
I was also dead and blood flowed out of my stomach.
“You’re only weak.” I heard a familiar voice from behind me and I turned around to see my dark replica appear in the room.
He looked at all the dead bodies in the room with pity and disgust before looking back at me.
“You!” I said, pointing my finger at him.
“What are you doing?” I asked and I was already beginning to feel afraid about everything I just saw.
“Pfftt.” He scoffed.
“Why are you messing with mind by showing me all these?” I asked. It had to be. He could also control what happened here so he was intentionally creating this terrible reality just to mess with my head.
“Me?!” He asked and I scoffed. He was going to deny it.
“Why would I show you any of this?”
“Maybe so you can successfully make me mentally unstable and then finish your mission to kill me,” I replied, shrugging, but he shook his head.
“Believe it or not, all this is a result of your weakness!” he retorted, gritting his teeth.
“You need me and unless you give me control, you’re going to lose everything you love,” he threatened and I shoved my fingers into my forehead, gritting my teeth.
He was fucking messing with me, I thought and I took a look at the dead bodies of I and Lycian.
I closed my eyes and breathed out loud. That instant, I felt sucked away from that reality and I opened my eyes.
*
I blinked and stepped out of the portal. I were in an empty alleyway and there were Sanctum officials around me.
“The restaurant is down the road, you have to walk there,” Hardin said and I nodded. I breathed out loud and walked out of the alley into the main road. I walked by the side of the road, looking at the building of the restaurant up ahead.
As I walked, I couldn’t help but think about everything I just saw. Were they real? They seemed so real.
That wasn’t a memory of something that had happened to me in the past and as always, it had felt so real.
When all this was over, I needed to find help and figure out what was happening. Every night, I have to fight and survive the attacks of my dark replica and it was only a matter of time before it would be successful.
If he was successful, what would happen at all, I thought and scoffed. Still, I couldn’t help the instinct to survive even though I would probably wake up and continue living.
I finally reached the restaurant and I looked at both sides of the road as cars drove by. I finally ran across the road when there it was free and I walked to the restaurant. I grabbed the door and opened it, walking into the building.
I looked across the restaurant, my eyes scanning for the lady I was here to meet.
She wasn’t here.
Or not. I looked at someone covering her face with a newspaper as she slowly brought it down.
Nicole.
She looked at me and I waved, walking towards her.
Here goes nothing.
