Chapter 130

  Jordan.

I blinked and stepped out of the portal with two Sanctum officials. We were now on Wisconsin Avenue and the house where Nicole wanted me to meet her was just across the street.

I used my enhanced sight to take a look at the house and I sighed. I faced the Sanctum officials with me and I nodded to them that I would go now.

They had to go back to Sanctum headquarters this time. They couldn’t stay around to avoid what happened the last time. If they were caught again, Nicole would put the dots together and know that something was up with me coming to her.

I watched as the Sanctum officials walked back into the portal and it closed up.

I stood by the road and waited for it to be clear before crossing to the other side of the road.

I walked to the building of the address Nicole gave me and I walked up to the front porch. No security at all.

  Didn’t look suspicious a bit.

I climbed the stairs that led to the door and rang the doorbell.

There was no reply for a while, but the door soon clicked open and I saw Nicole’s head pop out from the small opening she had created.

“Oh. Jordan,” She said as if she had forgotten that I was supposed to come see her here. She smiled and opened the door wider so I could come in.

  “Come in.”

“Thank you,” I said and walked into the house. The building seem like a normal house. It was structured like a warehouse with few offices that were all connected.

I saw three men pass by us and they were carrying a black box that seemed heavy. I was curious about what was in the box, but I took my gaze off it so I wouldn’t come off as being too curious and then arouse Nicole’s suspicion.

I honed my vampire hearing listening to every sound being made as far as my hearing could go, but I couldn’t hear anything suspicious. It was mostly about business transactions which got me curious immediately.

“Sit down,” Nicole said and I faced her to see her gesturing at a chair. She was being all casual and polite and somehow, that freaked me out. Maybe because I had just had an encounter with her where she was super mean and ready to drain me of my blood.

I only nodded and I went to sit. She walked forward too and sat on the chair opposite me.

“I had totally forgotten that I asked you to come here, sorry about that,” she said confirming what I had thought when I first saw her.

“Yes, I came here just at the time you asked me to,” I said and she nodded.

“Since you said you’re in need of a job to survive, I have the perfect job for you to do,” she said with an assuring smile.

Good. I only hope that it has something- anything to do with their illegal activities. Something that would give me access to their secrets no matter how hard.

“Thanks a lot,” I said and stared at her, waiting to hear what the job offer was.

“My family has a business started by my father and I think you can do well there,” she said.

They even consider their activities a business and yes, I can do well there because of my vampire abilities.

“You were an accountant at your former place of work right?” She asked and although I was surprised how it correlated with drugs and human slaughter, I nodded.

  “Yes.”

“My family runs a shoemaking company. We make other accessories too, but it’s mainly shoe making,” she said casually and every word sounded as a surprise to me.

What ? Shoemaking? That was what she wants to introduce me to?

I’m officially in trouble. If that was all, I already sounded desperate and turning down the offer would arouse suspicion and probably put a target on my back and on the back of everyone I care about.

“I can easily compell account to quit and you can work there as the company’s accountant instead,” she continued and all I did was nod and smile thankfully.

“Shoemaking?!” I heard Darell’s shocked voice in the earpiece put in my ear.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he said and scoffed. It wasn’t exactly helpful to talk when I’m seating with them as it could influence my body language and facial expression.

I wanted to say that, but Nicole was sitting in front of me and I smiled gratefully.

“Thank you so much,” I thanked her. I looked up as I saw the door of the building open and I saw three men walk in carrying a similar black box.

What was that? I couldn’t think about that properly when I saw a familiar face walk in after them.

It was the bartender at the club on that day.

He also spotted me and I saw the look of recognition on his face.

  Recognition and anger.

Nicole looked behind her to check what I was looking at and she stood up when she saw him.

“Kyle,” She said and faced me.

“You remember Kyle right. He’s My cousin,” she introduced him to me.

Cousin? Why did no one mention earlier that he was her cousin. It was really a family thing wasn’t it.

“Kyle, do you remember Jordan?” She asked him and he faced her before nodding and looking at me angrily.

“Yes I do,” he replied in his rough and coarse voice.

“And I remember that he said he never wanted to have anything to do with us,” he said and I had to fake an apologetic look.

  “I’m sorry,” I simply said.

“I heard about your shit with Sanctum. Did you really spend six months in blood rehabilitation?” Kyle asked and I nodded. He stared at me and he didn’t look convinced.

Three more men walked in carrying boxes and he stopped them with a wave of his hand. They dropped the box on the floor and he bent down, opening the box. I looked in and saw that it was filled with shoes.

  Just packed shoes.
