Chapter 142

  Lycian.

I walked into the elevator as soon as I gave Stefan the necessary instructions and had him go back to the office to handle things.

I leaned my back on the wall of the elevator as I waited for the elevator to stop. It finally stopped and the doors opened with a ding.

I looked around and saw severally Sanctum Soldiers gearing themselves up and preparing for the attack on the operation base of the Speranzini syndicate.

I looked around, searching for Jordan and finally spotted him sitting on a bench far away. This past few days had been stressful and with every passing day, Jordan seemed to get more and more different.

I felt that there was a lot of things he wasn’t telling me. Significant things that he wasn’t supposed to hide. His mind also seemed to have sort of protection as I couldn’t read his mind properly and I wondered if Jordan had gone out of his way to protect his mind from me.

At least I knew that he had lied when Darell asked him how he was able to evade an unveiling spell so powerful. That also made me to wonder how he had successfully done that and what he meant by absorbing the energy from nature itself.

He seemed super secretive and distant these days. He also looked like he was fighting to control something within him.

He acted out earlier and I grabbed his hand to calm him down only for him to push away my hand. I sighed loudly and walked towards him.

“What was that about?” I asked and he looked over his shoulder at me with an apologetic look.

I walked closer and sat next to him, watching him toy with his hands without giving a reply.

I was about to ask him again when he finallt talked.

“Lycian, I’m sorry,” he apologized, but that wasn’t going to do anything this time. I needed answers that he didn’t seem like he was ready to give.

  I looked away and swallowed.

“I’m sorry, but you need to trust me. I’ll explain everything to you as soon as this is over,” he added and I scoffed internally.

Trust? How could I trust him when he’s been hiding something from me for so long. I definitely know that nothing happened during all this case with Sanctum and access to his mind had gone far before Sanctum knocked on the door. Not that I like to infiltrate his privacy, but some times, I like to know what he is thinking.

I was about to ask him why he had protected his mind from me, but I stopped and looked away.

“Just make sure that you’re doing the right thing,” I simply said and watched as he stood up to go meet Darell.

I leaned into the bench and waited when I suddenly heard that he wanted to go with them.

I stood up immediately and walked closer to them, listening as Jordan continued arguing his way into following them.

“This is dangerous. You don’t have the experience that they had gained on the field,” I said trying to persuade him not to go, but he remained adamant and Darell finally agreed to let him go with them.

“No, you can’t let him go.” I refused, attempting to change Darell’s mind.

“I’ll be fine Lycian!” Jordan suddenly shouted at me and I looked at him, stunned. I simply nodded and walked back to the bench, sitting down.

I watched as he left with Sanctum Soldiers in a large portal. He was going to risk his own life when Darell himself was staying back here.

The Speranzini syndicate would have seen the portal opening and they would be at the other side waiting to attack whatever comes through. It was dangerous, but Jordan just refuses to listen.

I was scared of what might happen to him and I couldn’t just sit back here and let him risk his life there alone.

I realized that Darell wouldn’t let me go. I am not a part of this mission and he would be held responsible if anything happened to me. He was even standing on ice concerning Jordan.

Still, I can’t sit back and do nothing. I looked up and saw that the large portal was still left open. Probably to save the stress of reopening such a large targeted portal or aid them in returning quickly if there was any need for it.

I stood up from the bench and rested my palms on my waist, thinking of what I could do. There were so many of them including Darell here and I would have to be smart to do what I wanted to do.

I walked closer to them and Darell looked sideways to face me as he saw me.

“What is it Mr. Hale?” Darell asked and I simply smiled.

“I’m worried about what’s going on over there,” I said and he smiled.

“Yeah. Me too. I hope that they’ll come back safely,” he said and crossed his arms over his chest.

“Is there a way to see what’s going on over there?” I asked and he nodded, pointing at computers arranged at the corner.

“Yes, there is, but with all the fighting and zooming around, it’s hard to make out anything,” he replied and I nodded before pretending to be going towards the computers.

There were a couple Vampires and Magicians here. Vampires are naturally faster and they would catch me or any of the Magicians would make me freeze in place.

I stopped walking and reached into my pocket, taking out my phone. I suddenly dropped it and bent down to pick it, using the corner of my eyes to watch everyone.

Well, there’s no harm in trying. I picked the phone and as soon as I stood up straight, I zoomed forward as fast as I could go.

I heard a ripping sound in the air as a Vampire chased after me, but I continued and suddenly leaped into the air, stretching out my hands. The Vampire held on to my leg, but as soon as my hand touched the portal, it drew me in and he along with me.
