THE STRANGE GAMMA
Ethan is still very confused about Mike and the town. Everywhere is too quiet and he can feel evil coming. The patients in the hospital are supposed to be sick and contagious according to them but they were all roaming around without wearing any form of protection. What sort of infection chose what it wanted to infect? Do diseases now have a mind of their own?
Ethan stood in front of the bodies observing them. For some reason he felt whatever was going on didn't have anything to do with some contagious virus, it was deeper!
"Alpha, your room is ready you should go get some rest," Mike says. Ethan grunts an inaudible reply and follows him out of the clinic.
As they walk to the upper floors where the rooms are, Ethan notices how the corridors are empty and even the few people moving around look too scared to stare up into his face. What are these people afraid of?
Mike stops in front of a brown mahogany door on the second floor and opened it. "Your room, " he waves for Ethan to step in.
The room is a standard presidential suite, with a large bed and a small sitting area. In here, the colors make Ethan forget the pain and sorrow that looms outside. He paces around the room, observing the arrangement of the drawers and the fine materials used for the sheets, there were all of impeccable quality, yet just beyond these walls, the world is cold and grey.
"Thank you, Mike, I can take it from here," Ethan tells Mike. He turns around to face him and gives him a tight-lipped smile.
"Of course sir, " mike says, scurrying out of the room.
Ethan goes after him and locks the door carefully to make sure someone doesn't barge in on him, this town is not to be trusted. He will have to be very careful.
He pulls out his phone and calls Peter. He sent Peter here a few days ago, but he never gave him the details of what exactly was going on here. He sat there in the city thinking every wolf under him was living fine, whereas they were not. He gives all the gamma in charge of these towns and provinces enough money to take care of them, but this visit just proved how poorly they have been managing the resources he has been given to them.
They do nothing. They forget that, if the population is not well fed and well taken care of, they risk having stray wolves and rogues that may start attacking not just the werewolves in the community but also the humans they swore to protect and live within peace and harmony.
He will have to do something about this. He has to remind all of them of their jobs so that the peace they have can be maintained.
"Hello, Alpha, " Peter says, finally picking the call.
"How is Camilla doing?" Before he can stop himself he begins with her. He has been trying hard enough to not mention her or think about her all day but having to talk to Peter he has to at least ask about her wellbeing.
"She is fine. I think she is starting to remember a few more things..." Peter trails.
Ethan is happy to hear the news, but he pauses in his excitement when he hears the hesitation in Peter's voice. "What is it? Did something happen?" Ethan asks him.
"Yesterday, I met a friend of hers around the Estate. I think they met but Camilla denied it. Peter finally says out loud.
Ethan furrows his brows as he tries to get his brain around the information. "You met a friend of hers... Isn't that suppose to be a good thing?" Ethan asks, unable to see the wrong in the news.
"No, Ethan, it is a piece of good news. The only problem is that Camilla denied seeing her or meeting with her..." Peter insists.
"Maybe, she didn't meet up with this friend you talk about. You didn't see them together did you?" Ethan shrugs. "It is quite normal for her friend to come by the house and Camilla wouldn't even recognize them. She suffered quite a shock in the brain..."
"Ethan, I am not disputing that. What I find strange is how this friend of hers knows Camilla is here- " Peter begins to say but Ethan cuts him off
"Peter that is pretty normal too. I told the doctor at City Hospital to give out our address to anyone who comes asking or looking for Camilla. Don't bother about that," Ethan assures Peter waving off his doubts.
"But Ethan, this is not the first time l am seeing this friend of hers... " Peter trails off again.
Peter is not a very complicated person and he is one of the best werewolves in the world that had mastered the art of minding their business. But for him to insist so much in a matter, there had to be some truth in it. But Ethan doesn't want to believe anything that has to do with the negative side of Camilla. Yet, something tugs at his inner mind to listen to Peter.
"What do you mean, Have you met this friend of hers before?" Ethan asks deciding to give Peter a chance to say his mind. Who knows it might be useful in helping Camilla recover if not anything
"The day I came back from Mike's town, I wanted to meet up with Sandra a few miles away from town but unfortunately I didn't meet her. So I ended up taking a public bus to get home since I was too tired to drive myself-"
"Peter, you are starting to drag out the matter, what does this have to do with Camilla or her friend?" Ethan asks as he is starting to get impatient.
"Yes, in that public bus I took, I met this friend of hers there..." Peter states.
"How are you sure it was her? You met this girl once in a public bus for that matter and you claim to remember her?" Ethan asks. It is easy to remember a face you see constantly and maybe even speak to. But for someone you met one time in a public bus and Peter just confessed to being tired that day, how can he be sure that he did indeed meet this Camilla's friend?
"I spoke to her that day Ethan, and you know I am not so horrible with a face..." Peter says.
Ethan smiles as he starts to hear the uncertainty in Peter's voice. Peter says he is not so horrible with people's faces but in the real sense, he is horrible with them! Yet, he claims to remember this friend of Camillas.
"Peter," Ethan chuckles.
"You may not believe me but I did meet this girl in that bus and we were heading here that day, I remember because I spoke to her and she spoke to me, Believe Ethan." Peter wails, explaining himself.
"Okay, let's assume I believe you, and that you did meet the girl on the bus, but I want you to also consider the fact that she could have been heading anywhere in the city!" Ethan tries to explain to him.
"I feel like you are purposely refusing to see my reasoning because you like Camilla too much and you don't want to see her wrongdoings..." Peter says.
Peter is very right. Ethan just doesn't want to see Peter's reasoning because he didn't want to believe Camilla can be hiding something like that from him. When he wanted to tell her goodbye, he had heard her talking on the phone with someone, but since she said she wasn't he let it go. Now that Peter is insisting she may have gotten her memories back, maybe it is true after all that some of her memories had returned and she didn't want to tell anyone yet.
"You are right, but maybe she isn't ready to talk about it yet. You know she lived a very rough life. She is probably too ashamed to talk about it. Let's give her time, let her come clean on her own, okay?" Ethan says, breathing out. Thinking about Camilla and the kind of work she does for a living is something, he doesn't enjoy doing one bit. He is still mad at the goddess for making his mate a pickpocket but what can he do? His choices are limited when it comes to the Goddess and her gifts.
"Okay, if you say so., Peter says.
"And Jessie? Hope she hasn't been much trouble? " Ethan asks.
"Ah, we haven't seen much of her lately. But she kids be fine. I heard her yelling at the maids the other night about putting too much spice in her meals," Peter says as he releases a chuckle.
"That must have been dramatic," Ethan adds. Anything that involves Jessie is always overdramatic to even start with the qualification.
"To the last C," Peter interjects and the two of them share a small laugh.
Jessie is a spoilt brat and she expects to be treated like a princess anywhere that she goes. Ethan has been putting up with her capricious character ever since just to keep her company around but not anymore as soon as he gets home from this mission, he will send her back to her apartment. He and his household have had enough of her and her antics.
"How are things over at your end?" Peter asks after he has straightened himself.
"Things are not looking good at all, that's one of the reasons I called." Ethan begins, "first of all, all the money I give to Mike is not used for the people. I don't know where he puts the money. The town is in a sorry state and everywhere is in shambles!" Ethan cries out.
"Why didn't you inform me of the state of things the last time you came?" Ethan asks.
He sent Peter yet, Peter only reported about the sickness ravaging and nothing more.
"Ethan, I am sorry. I couldn't bring myself to tell you because I knew you wouldn't take it well. I wanted us to solve this disease problem first and then look into their welfare," Peter states. "The best thing for us to do now is to solve that first-"
"I know that's the priority but a lot of other people will die if we over kook this matter Peter! What is Mike doing here?" Ethan cries out.
With the money he was constantly giving Mike to take care of the town it is painful to see it j. such a state.
"I understand your worries competent and I promise you that we will look into it., Peter assures him.
Ethan breathes out in frustration but lets the matter down for now. He promises himself that as soon as the disease and the death of werewolves in the town get solved, he will deal with the situation.
"So, what is the mode of action right now?" Peter asks him.
"I will call a meeting with the elders of the town and see how we can solve the disease problem and other problems that they have here."
"They have other problems?" Peter asks his voice going an octave higher. It is a surprise that such a small town will be going through so many problems at the same time.
"Yes, they do."
