LISA MAUR
Lisa slowly steps out of the back gate of Ethan's estate and pulls it gently behind her. She wrings her face as the door creaks.
Damn door will make her get caught!
Finally, the old door comes to a close and she turns around to scurry to the bus stop when she crashes into a very thick wall. She is knocked out of breathing and takes a step back to regain her balance.
Who is the fool that made a new wall in the middle of the road? -she mumbles to herself as she massages the sore spot on her forehead that had hit the wall. She looks up at the wall, making a mental preparation to give it the longest eye roll of a century when her eyes meet the person she never expected to meet again, Peter.
Once again she is thrown into a loss of air as her lungs run dry and she is gasping to catch her breath, not because she had hit a wall or a mountain of a person this time but because she was standing face to face with Peter!
First, her hormones are on overdrive as she finds herself blushing uncontrollably, secondly, her heart is also racing at the outcome of this clash.
How long has he been standing there and watching her sneak out of the place? - she asks herself.
If he has seen her coming out of the estate, what could she say about it?
How does she defend herself in a way that doesn't put Camilla in jeopardy, and a way that makes them remain in their mission.
"Oh, God, please, help us, we just started this good mission, we can't lose it!" she exclaims in her heart.
"I know you..." Peter whispers in his deep voice and Lisa covers her face with the bag of goodies she got from Camilla, trying to hide her face from him.
"He can't recognize her, can he? Rich people are not supposed to remember ordinary folks like her in any way!" She mumbles again as she tried to get past him, Keyword- try.
Peter steps on her way and she peeks up at him from behind the bag. "Yes, you are Lisa Maur." He repeats with a heart-melting smile.
"No, I am not. Please leave!" Lisa squeaks like a wet rat.
Lisa Maurice isn't a weak girl. She isn't one of those damsels in distress looking for help in the arms of a prince charming. She is the type of girl that fought her own battles no matter how large or tough the enemy may be. But being in front of Peter was messing with her brain.
He is her major crush and he has practically caught her breaking into his friend's estate. This is not a matter of flight or fight. The options are limited to only one thing, she has to run.
She takes another step to the side, eyeing the road far ahead. If she could only get past his large frame she will be able to make it to the road and away from him in one piece.
"Do you have a friend here?" Peter asks. He is also shocked. From the moment he picked up her scent in the garden. He knew Camilla was with someone, but being such a cunny human, he didn't see her by the time he got to the garden. He took a backward turn till he turned to the front of the house as fast as he could and there he saw Lisa Maur, the girl he met in a public bus a few days ago, coming out the back gate of the Estate like some kind thief.
"No, I don't have anybody!" She says, still using the large brown paper bag in her hands to cover her face. Does she think he isn't seeing her?
"Lisa Maur, it is me, Peter, we met a few days ago on a bus, do you remember me?" He tries again, stretching his hands.
As if that is the escape she has been looking for, as Peter drops his defensive stance in front of her by stretching his hand for a friendly handshake, Lisa sprints to the road as fast as her human legs can carry her.
Peter is gobsmacked as he gawks at her fast sprint. He can catch her if he wants to but, he is amazed by her energy. He has never met a human with as much energy as she. And besides, something told him, they were going to meet again. There is something about her that just pricks him. He wants to know more about her and he will do just that.
Lisa runs at the highest speed she can muster knowing that her life depends on it. If Peter catches her, then she is doomed. Camilla is doomed and Camilla's father is doomed too. Luckily for her, as soon as she steps onto the road, a yellow cab stops and she practically jumps into the car.
"Please drive fast, that man is trying to kidnap me!" She cries out to the driver, who doesn't waste time to zoom off the road, far away from the Peterson's Estate. As the car moves, Lisa stares back at the shadow of a man gawking at her. She is surprised he didn't run after her like most property owners did when they found her trespassing on their property. She can swear with her guts that if he actually tried, he would have caught her halfway down the road. But he didn't as much as shake. It's as if, he wanted her to run like some prey.
Oh, no! -she exclaims in her mind as she thinks about the possibilities of his actions.
What if he acted like that so he could send Camilla out of the house? Or to the police!
"Oh my!" She is shaking all over as she pulls out her phone to call Camilla.
"Stay away from Peter!" She yells as soon as Camilla picks up the call.
The driver peeks at her from his rearview mirror but Lisa pays him no attention. The matter she is going through is more important than some drivers thinking she is mad or out of her senses.
"Lisa, what's going on?" Camilla asks her through the phone.
"He met me at the gates, Camilla, I think he is going to come for you. Remain in your room and stay hidden till Ethan returns. Ethan is the only one who can save us now Camilla!" Lisa exclaims as she clutches the bag close to her chest.
"Lisa, calm down. Did Peter say anything to you? Did he actually see you there? Did you say anything to him?" Worry slowly starts creeping into Camilla as she starts getting the gravity of what Lisa is saying.
"Did he see the goods with you? What did he say to you?" Camilla continues bombarding Lisa with questions.
"Ma'am, where are you going?" The driver asks. There is a line on his forehead and Lisa knows she will end up being the dinner topic at this man's house. He thinks he picked up a crazy passenger.
"6th Avenue, Limbe, near the city hospital," she tells the driver.
"What? Did you tell him our address? Oh my God- " Camilla is yelling at this point as she misunderstands what Lisa just said.
"No, no, I didn't. I am in a cab right now, I am heading home." Lisa explains to her and she goes quiet.
"So what did he say?" Camilla asks.
"He just mentioned my name and I ran away from him, Camilla. I was so scared. Oh my God, I thought everything was going to end!" Lisa cries out, not minding the strange looks the driver is giving her.
"Wait, he knows your name?" Camilla squeals from the other end of the phone.
Lisa facepalms herself, remembering that she didn't actually tell Camilla that she met Peter on a bus a few days ago.
"Lisa, are you there?" Camilla yells.
Lisa snaps out of her thoughts and responds. "Yes, he knows my name. Wait, before you scream!" Lisa stated hearing the gasp, Camilla was slowly building so she can release a scream.
"Okay, I won't scream, go on and tell me. How does Peter know your name?" Camilla breathes.
"The first time I came over at the Estate, I met Peter in the bus and we had a little conversation. Somewhere in between, my name kind of slipped out of my lips," Lisa says biting her fingers. She knows she had made a mistake. She shouldn't have told Peter her name. She made the fucking rule about names herself! Yet she broke it!
"Lisa, how could you tell a potential client your name? That's the first rule you taught me!" Camilla exclaimed.
"I know, I know. It just slipped and I regret it but what can I do. What's done is done!" Lisa shrugs still hugging the goody bag to her chest. Blaming herself over it is not going to solve the problem. She needs to make sure she never meets Peter ever again. They should never meet. Because the next time they meet, he would not hesitate to ask her what she was doing at the estate and she won't be able to tell him. How do you tell a person, you came to steal from them? Things are getting way more complicated than they had anticipated.
"And he recognized you?" Camilla asks after a while of silence.
"Yes, he fucking did. Look just watch out for him. If he asks anything, find a way around it and let me know how it goes." Lisa breathes.
This is going to change everything. They will have to change the course of this game and turn it around if they want to keep winning and gaining more cash.
"Ma'am, we are here," The driver says, stopping right across their apartment building.
"Thank you!" She says to the cab. She dips her hand in her pockets and brings out a twenty note. She gives him and carries her goody bag with her to their floor.
"Are you home now?" Camilla asks. She has been patient in the line waiting for Lisa to finish with the cab man.
"Yes, I am about to get in now," Lisa says as she fixes her key into the door and pulls it open. Once she gets in, she relocks the door again before taking off her shoes. She drops the paper bag on the bed and sits beside it.
"I think we should change the plan," Lisa begins as she massages her legs.
"I am thinking of the very same thing too. It is becoming too risky. Sometimes it's the maid, sometimes it's Jessie and now Peter. We can't keep going like this, " Camilla says.
Lisa smiles. This is why she loves Camilla. She and her had the same pattern of thinking. The same things Camilla just mentioned were the very thing she wanted to say. The estate was becoming too dangerous to keep sneaking in and out like that.
"So, what do you suggest we do," Lisa asks.
"I will be doing the sneaking," Camilla says with determination evident in her voice.
"No, Camilla it's too dangerous. You can't leave, what if they see you, it will blow the entire cover you have there!" Lisa cries out.
"I will be careful. It is easier for me to leave and come back in. Even if I am caught I won't be questioned as a thief. But if you get caught the chances are slim that you will be let go!"
"Camilla, are you sure? What about your health?" It will indeed be easier for Camilla to go in and out of the Estate without being suspected but, Lisa needs to be sure her friend's health isn't going to be affected.
"I have told you before, it was just a scratch. I am fine. I can handle it."
Lisa is still having doubts about the plan even if it does make sense. "If we are going to do this, you will have to hold on. I am sure Peter will be on high alert these days. You have to lay low for a while until everything dies down, promise?" Lisa asks.
"Promise."
