LAST RESPECT
Going after Lisa Maur isn't a very difficult task for Peter. Spying and getting information is his second identity. Since he already knows where Camilla was staying before the accident, getting more information won't be difficult because Camilla and Lisa stayed in the same place.
Peter could send his boys to do the dirty job but, he has this strong urge to know more about Lisa Maur, on his own. He wants to learn about her. Her character interests him. She was beginning to taunt his night, flowing in his dreams and consciousness. He has to know why he can't forget about her, and for that, he will need to gather as much information as he can about her.
Waiting at home for one of his boys to bring in the information he needs is not an option. He will grow rabid out of inpatient. He has to get the information by himself. Peter leaves the comfort of his room, picking up only his phone and wallet. Rather than take one of the expensive cars in the estate, Peter decides to take the public bus, a way of reminding himself of the day he had met Lisa Maur. She was not the most beautiful woman he had seen or even the most beautiful on the bus that day. There was just something about her. Maybe it was the way she closed her eyes and whispered numbers to herself that lured him closer to her. And now, she was like a forbidden drink, he couldn't stop chasing after her. He couldn't stop thinking about her. Meeting her again in front of the Estate, just made it much worst for him. He has to know who Lisa Maur is.
Peter stands by the bus stop right across the house, waiting for the bus. He is dressed in a large hoodie that covers most of his face, so no one can recognize him when he gets to their area. A bus soon arrives and he boards it, making sure to keep his head low and avoid eye contact, especially with girls — those were always on the social media pages, they'll recognize him no matter how many layers of clothes he throws himself in. He finds a comfortable corner seat at the end of the aisle and takes it, plugging in his AirPods — the AirPods won't keep out the noise but it will turn off humans from starting up unnecessary conversations with him. The noise will remain because of his wolf ears.
The bus journey is long and tiring but Peter knows his goal is worth all the pain. The bus is being unusually slow and he could have gotten there In his wolf form faster if the humans won't be freaking out, but he stays put, reminding himself that by the time he gets to know Lisa Maur and get all the answers he is searching for, the good sleep he will get will be a great pay for all the trouble he is going through now.
The bus finally gets to its destination but Peter alights at some distance before the designated bus stop, taking his time to walk the remaining distance to Lisa and Camilla's apartment building, where he had directed Ethan to.
He wanted to go up to their floor but he decided to take things slow and watch her from a distance. If he goes straight to her for the answers, she might take flight again and he doesn't want that.
When you want to learn about someone, you should study their in and out. This is like when they return from work and when they leave the house?
Then you can proceed to find out where they go to when they leave and if their return is straight home or another stop. All this he needs to do before approaching Lisa Maur. Hence; Peter finds a small Coffee shop opposite the building and takes a table close to the window, so he can see all that's happening at the building across.
"Sir, would you like to have something to drink while you wait?" A voice says by his side.
He turns to the voice and finds a petite girl holding a note pad ready to take his order.
So much for waiting in peace. "I'll take coffee," he says. If he is going to wait for Lisa Maur to watch her every movement, he might as well take something strong. Though coffee doesn't reply work on werewolves, he will have to take at least ten cups or more for him to start feeling even the tiniest effect of the caffeine.
"Sugar or no sugar?" The girl asks, scribbling into her notepad
Peter is not interested in the coffee. All he wants is to be left alone so he can concentrate on the job at hand which is to watch out for Lisa Maur.
"Just make me the finest Coffee you can make, please, I don't mind," he tells the girl, putting his hands together as if saying a prayer. He will do anything for the girl to go away and leave him alone. He doesn't want to miss a moment and this waitress is going to make him do just that. He tries to stretch his neck past her so he can see if the front sliding doors of the apartment have been open but the waitress moves in that direction, preventing him from seeing.
He has to press down on his hands to keep from cursing her out loud.
Finally, she scribbles down the order and turns around. "I'll be right back!"
Peter breathes in relief as the girl finally leaves. He looks straight up at the building, checking the sliding doors but he can't tell if someone had gone in or outside. The doors look unmoving. How will he know if she is home or not?
He counts the floors with his eyes until he gets to theirs. Using his wolf senses, he tries to smell her from the distance he is in. Though hard, but not impossible. He finds it. and he smiles because the lights are on, it means she is home.
Now all he has to do is wait for her to make a move. It is still very early in the day, she can't possibly spend the entire day in the house.
The waitress returns with a tray filled with his order and places it on the table. "Your order, sir." She curtsies gently and returns to attend to other customers.
Peter sips the tea, savoring the strong taste of caffeine in the drink. As he drinks he keeps his eyes steady on the window. His phone rings and he snatches it out of his pockets without breaking contact with the window.
"Peter on the line, speak!" Without checking Peter knows it is one of his boys calling to update him on Lisa Maur.
"Her name is Lisa Maurice. She stays with her friend Camilla Taylor-" the guy says and Peter rolls his eyes. He already knew that part of Lisa. He doesn't need a reminder.
"I already know all of that. Do you have any other information that I don't know of!" Peter snaps, growing bored of listening to the same information again and again.
"She lost her brother a couple of years back and she has been living alone till she met Camilla, her best friend." The guy holds back and Peter can tell he is purposely giving him old information. He has been working with Lucas for a whole now, he understands how the guy operates but sometimes he is so annoying. Just get on with the information and don't keep anything away. If Peter didn't ask him certain questions, Lucas will not give out some information.
"What was her brother's name?" He asks the guy. When he made research on Camilla, he didn't know her friend had a brother, though he never really dug deep into her friend's past, until now.
"Damon Maurice," Lucas says.
A thunderclap goes off in Peter's head as the name repeats itself. "What did you say?" He asks the guy.
"Yes sir, it is Damon Maurice. I have back-checked and it is true. It is the same Damon you know."
Peter Drops the cup of coffee he is nursing back onto the table and holds on to the phone as his eyes remain glued to the window. "Lisa is Damon's sister?"
"Yes, sir. We have verified it over and it is true. Lisa Maurice is Damon Maurice's younger sister."
"Thank you, Lucas. I'll call you if I need any other thing." Unable to take in more news, Peter ends the call.
The news breaks his heart. Damon was his good friend back when he was very little. They spent most of their time together but Peter had to leave for college and pack duties when he returned to town, he couldn't find his friend. He searched everywhere and there was just no sign of Damon or his family.
No wonder he feels so attracted to Lisa. She is his friend's sister. He is almost running to her to ask about her brother when he recalls the words she said on the bus when they met.
'Yeah, I had a brother who use to say the same thing'
Her brother is dead. Damon is dead!
Peter is devastated. Damon was so full of life and young, what could have killed him. He will have to ask Lucas to look into that as well.
Looking back up at the window, he feels a sudden sadness envelop him, and the strings drawing him to Lisa get even stronger. He will have to take care of Lisa from now on as a way of paying his respects to his friend.
