CHAPTER 89

  The Cries of Pain.

Camilla couldn't believe what had happened. It made no sense and her head wasn't even ready to take in any more of the shock.

  Her heart was scattered.

The only one who could understand her pain was gone completely into thin air. How? How could her father just disappear like this?

Tears had started falling out of her eyes at this point yet there was an awkward smile on her face.

She started laughing as soon as Owen finished talking. But her laughter soon turned to cries of pain and loss. Her father was gone.

"My dear I am sorry, but we are going to have to ask you to leave, " doctor Owen told her gently.

She looked up at him with sadness in her eyes. "Doctor but my father was here the last time I came, where did he go? Is he dead?" She choked out.

Doctor Owen felt bad but he had an agreement with Ethan, he couldn't disclose anything to her. Besides if things went bad, he would not be able to clear his name if he opened up to her now.

"Please, Camilla, you are disturbing the entire hospital, you have to leave," he repeated more firmly this time.

This made Camilla's blood boil in anger. Why would he use that tone on her?

"He was supposed to be under your care but you went on and let him go missing! How am I sure you didn't just cut him? Huh?" She screamed moving dangerously closer to Owen.

He signaled to the guards and they held her back for she was really coming to attack him.

"Let me go!" Camilla screamed. A migraine was forming in her head already but she was not going to stop. She would do anything to get her father back. They were only treating her like this because she didn't have money. She wasn't anybody influential but she could still deal with them.

"I will sue you all! I will report to the police! You will say where you have taken my daddy!" She screamed as the guards lifted her out of the corridor.

They got to the front gates and dropped her unceremoniously to the ground.

"I will be back! This isn't the end of me! I will be back!" Camilla screamed.

She wiped her face clean and walked down the road to Lisa's place. It was still dark out barely three AM in the morning. She couldn't return to the estate even if she wanted to. Finding her father was her priority.

She got to the apartment and went up the stairs, taking two steps at a time. She was at their door in no time. She knocked and a very sleepy Lisa opened the door.

The moment Lisa set her eyes on Camilla, she knew something was wrong. Her sleep left her at once and she ushered her into the house.

"Camilla, what is the matter?" Lisa said as she led her to the couch. Camilla looked like she was going to break if left to walk on her own. She looked sick and pale. Her eyes were swollen and her breathing was not steady.

"It's my daddy!" Camilla said breaking down completely. "I don't know what's going on Lisa-" She sobbed. Fresh tears spilled down her face and she thought her heart would squeeze in on itself as a large lump sat in her chest.

Lisa got up and went to get her a glass of water.

"I don't know what's going on anymore," Camilla kept saying as she hiccupped and sobbed. She didn't even know how to say it without breaking down.

"Here, take the water. Calm down and then you can tell me everything," Lisa said handing her the glass of water.

Camilla took the glass but her hands were shaking badly. Lisa saw that if she let her handle it, the water was going to spill away. She scooted closer to her and held the glass cup to her lips.

"Sip a little," she begged her.

Camilla sipped just a little and pushed the glass away from her lips. Lisa dropped the glass on the side table. She moved closer to Camilla and cleaned her face with her hands. Then she held her hands.

"Camilla, tell me, what happened to your father?" Lisa asked her calmly.

Lisa feared that Camilla's father might have died. She knew it was the only thing that could make Camilla this disoriented.

"He is not there," Camilla said shaking her head as more tears fell. "I went there to see him and make the payment but- I- I couldn't find him in his room. Lisa, he isn't there." She started crying more heavily and Lisa held her hands tighter.

Lisa was confused. How could a man in a coma go missing?

"Camilla, pull yourself together and try to explain this as calmly as you can. What do you mean by he is not there? Did he... Did he die?" Lisa asked her in a small voice.

Maybe her father had died and her mind was refusing to accept the situation and she decided to think of it as her father went missing.

"No, no, he isn't dead," she said squeezing Lisa's hands. "He isn't dead. If- If he were, I would have felt it here- my heart would have told me-" she insisted tapping her heart. "They took him, Lisa! They have done something to him!" Camilla said hiccuping again.

  Lisa frowned.

"What?" She exclaimed. "Wait, did you speak to Dr. Owen? He should know what happened. He is in charge..." Lisa said looking hopefully at Camilla.

"Yes!" Camilla said as she cleaned her nose with the back of her sleeves. "I was there and- and he kept saying he can't tell me more than I already know! Lisa, they have taken my father away from me! They have taken him!" Camilla cried out.

Lisa pulled Camilla in for a hug and patted her back gently. "It's okay, Camilla. Don't cry we will find him. Just relax. I will call Owen and get the full explanation. If he doesn't say anything good, we will go to the police and report it!" Lisa assured her.

She picked up the phone and dialed the doctor's number. The man didn't pick up the call till the third ring.

"Lisa I have explained to your friend. Her father is no longer under my care, I can't help you. Please let me concentrate on my work-"

"That work you are trying to concentrate on will be your death if you don't tell me what you have done to Mr. Taylor. What do you mean by he is no longer under your care?" Lisa snapped.

The man heaved a sigh on the phone.

"Look, Lisa, my hands are tied here. I really can't help you," he said.

Lisa pulled her hair away from her forehead and clutched the phone. "You do know what you are saying makes you sound like a crazy person. A patient in your hospital in your ward is missing and you are telling me your hands are tied? If you need them to be opened I can as well bring a machete and help cut you loose! But whatever the case you need to find and bring Mr. Taylor back from where you have kept him!"

"I am sorry Lisa, please extend my concern to your friend." The phone went dead and Lisa glared at the phone.

The matter was really serious. This fool really wanted them to just let go. He wanted to sweep it under the carpet and forget about every other thing.

"What did he say?" Camilla asked her.

Lisa licked her lips and got up from the seat. "He hung up on me. We need to report this to the police," Lisa said as she moved to her closet to get clothes.

"Oh, God!" Camilla whimpered as she placed her hands against her mouth to muffle her cries.

  Why was this happening?

She had done everything she needed for her father. She had paid all fees, all charges and she never defaulted for one day. Why would the hospital then do this?

Lisa turned around and saw her crying again. "Camilla please pull yourself together. We will get to the bottom of this. I promise!"

But Camilla shook her head. Even she had threatened to report the incident to the police but to what avail? Everyone knew the police department at Besaadi only attended to the rich and mighty of the town. No one was even going to spare them a glance the moment they left their house to go to the precinct to complain. Their complaint will forever remain buried in some dusty drawers.

"There is no point in going to the police Lisa. No one would listen to us. No one would! This is Besaadi, remember?" Camilla said wiping her nose again.

Lisa understood what she said and she felt a fit of intense anger crawl up her body "so what? Do we give up? No! Just because we are broke people doesn't mean that we have no right for the police to attend to us! We will go there!" Lisa insisted.

"Lisa the hospital threw me out of their premises. No sane country even permits that but look at us? The police would do the same, we might even get arrested for old crimes just so that we can drop the case and leave them alone!" Camilla said sniffing her tears away.

Lisa was going for a good two seconds before she moved back to where Camilla was.

  "I know what to do."

Camilla raised her brows and wondered what Lisa meant.

Lisa took her phone once again and dialed someone's number. "Hello?"

"Hey baby girl, how are you? This is so early in the morning do you miss me already," Peter said in a husky voice. he must have been sleeping and her call woke him up.

"We have a situation, Peter. Camilla's father is missing," Lisa said in one rush of breath. She hadn't spoken to Peter about Camilla's father before so she knew he was going to be shocked.

"What? Camilla's who?" Peter asked. The sleepiness in his voice left immediately and Lisa could hear the shuffling of feet that signified he was off the bed.

"Yes, Peter. Can you come to my place?" There was no way she could explain this to him on the phone. It would be better if he came over.

"Okay, I'll be right there... A father?" Peter said the last part more to himself than to Lisa.

The call ended and Lisa turned to meet a shocked faced Camilla.

"What have you done?" Camilla asked her. "How can you tell Peter about this? Don't you know it would mean we tell him about everything?"

Lisa held her shoulder and sat down on the couch with her.

"Camilla, please be patient. At this point, you and I don't have much of a choice. I have told Peter about what I do and he accepted me. He has promised to get me a job so I can survive on my own. I trust him. And I want you to trust him too," Lisa explained to her.

"But you know he is friends with Ethan, if we tell him, he will tell Ethan and how am I supposed to face him after all the money I took from him?" The talks about the money reminded her of the envelope still in her waist bag. She brought it out and placed it on the table.

"Only last night, I took from him again. Lisa, I don't feel good about this..." Camilla whispered.

"Peter is my boyfriend. He will not do anything that will hurt me or you, do you understand. We trust each other completely. And besides, he is very influential, if the worst happens, we can use him to get to the police and find your dad!"

Her last statement got into Camilla and she kept quiet. Maybe telling Peter won't be so bad. She needed all the help she could get l.
