Chapter 31

  Alexey

I woke up the next morning feeling good, just as I had slept feeling good. I didn't want to willingly attribute it to the fact that Irena had agreed to go on a date with me, I wouldn't want to seem like a childish simp, or admit to the fact that I thought of picking up my phone and calling to ask her how her night went.

I don't the way I feel about this, maybe I'm only sexually attracted to her or maybe it is something else, but that is what I'm trying to figure out, that's why I want this date. I wouldn't want what had happened with Dinah happening again, she had given me more than enough reasons to not respect women because as the adage goes, experience is the best teacher, I would rather be safe than sorry.

Women are full of shit and see good men as men who should be trampled on and used. I don't expect anything to be different with Irena, the sex is, but for the rest, I expect anything and everything. I chuckled to myself, realizing that I had begun to think of a future and that wasn't a good sign.

I came out of my room to find out that Emelia was still asleep.

Today was going to be a busy day, I had to take the dogs from the vet clinic and I had to go to Sodom City for a final check-up on the security system.

I took my bath, had an omelet that I made myself, and headed out, deciding to get to Sodom city first. Arriving at my destination, I got to Sodom City's control room. And with the help of Pete, the head of Sodom's security team, I carried out my final observations, with the security system meeting all required standards and priorities. But again it is my intention, they were always perfect.

I had to make a verbal report to Irena, before making a written one, so I went to her office and was somewhat displeased when I met only Secretary Lesley.

"Good morning Mr. Alexey," she greeted upon noticing my presence.

"Good morning, Did Miss Ursula happen to come to work today?"

It was weird referring to her with her surname. Her name Ursula is from the constellation, meaning bear, or one of the villains from the little mermaid. The thought of Irena's surname is that named after the villain of a children's cartoon made me smile a little.

"Yes, she did," she checked the time on her watch, "but she went out twenty minutes ago."

I sighed, "Do you know when she would be coming back?"

Leslie shook her head, making her blonde bangs fall into her eyes. "No, she didn't say," was her reply.

  Well, that's a bummer.

"I'm done with the final testing for the security system-" I could send her a voice message because she needs to get verbal affirmation from me, according to protocol. "-can I leave her a voice message?" I suggested.

She appeared to be thinking for a few seconds, "well you can't send it to the company's line, that's for sure."

  "So?" I drawled.

"You'll have to send it to her directly," Lesley concluded.

Great, I'll be having her number. Killing two birds with one stone.

"I don't have her number," I complained innocently.

"Don't worry, I'll give it to you. Madam would probably scold me for doing this, we had no choice." She chanted taking out her phone.

I had a feeling that she also wants me to have Irena's number because there was a sly smile on her face.

  "Found it!" She informed loudly.

"Alright," Lesley called out that number, and I added it to my contacts list.

"Please don't call, just send a voice message to her and it would be good enough," Lesley advised.

"Alright, thanks." I successfully saved Irena's number.

"I would be expecting a written report from you and the head of security," Lesley informed.

I nodded, "That's right, It would be ready a few hours from now, or as soon as Miss. Ursula is back because we would need her signature,"

"Alright then," she replied going back to whatever she was doing on her laptop.

I got out of sodom city and drove back to my office.

"I sent you an email," I informed Bernice as I walked into my office. "I want it printed out and bound immediately," I ordered, taking off my suit jacket and sitting on my office chair.

"Alright sir," she stood up and walked out of the office, obviously towards the printing room.

"Three copies of each!" I called out, hoping she would hear me from the distance she had covered.

My phone rang, and I checked the identity of the caller, it was an unknown number, although I had a feeling about who the caller would be.

I answered the call and waited for the caller to talk.

"Is this Mr. Kojav?" The caller asked with a flat voice.

"Why are you asking?" I replied suspiciously, my experience with certain people has taught me to not automatically agree to one's identity when contacted by unknown individuals.

"Mr. Monterey has decided to withdraw his proposal to work with your tech company." The caller informed.

"That's great," I ensured to copy his flat tone. I have zero regrets about what I did, and if I happen to repeat that day, I would do the exact thing I did.

"Mr. Monterey has decided to not press charges for certain reasons." He said further.

"Why?" I wouldn't press charges if I was in his shoes too, because it would end up being bad for him, not me.

"As I said; for certain reasons, Mr. Monterey did not disclose his reasons."

Now that I think about it, the voice seems to be that of his Russian bodyguard, what's his name again? Nicholas? Nicholai? "Alright then,"

  He hung up.

I wonder what the outcome would be if Nicholai and Oscar decided to fight each other.

Bernice walked back into the office.

"Here are the print copies," she placed them on my desk. I picked up a copy.

"Thanks," I opened it and read its content, word for word. I don't want any issues or complications. I cross-checked every printed copy and nodded in satisfaction.

  "Bernice?" I called

  "Sir?"

"Call the board representatives, and schedule a meeting for three o'clock in the afternoon," I ordered.

"Yes sir," she replied and set to work.

"Wait, before you start, I want our copy of the contract with Sodom City regarding the test run on my table and after you're done with the first task I assigned, I want our copy of the contract with the board members on my table," I instructed further.

"Alright Mr. Kojav," she responded standing up.

After the meeting, I'll be taking my boys from the vet clinic, before going home. And then racking my brain on a date idea for I and Irena.

  Irene

I had left Sodom city to have breakfast with Magus at an exquisite breakfast restaurant a few walks from the club.

And I've spent more than two hours with him, because Magnus is a living, breathing distraction.

"We've been talking for hours and yet you haven't told me how your time at the club went," Magnus complained.

  I laughed. "That isn't important," I dismissed.

"Of course, why would you not say that, you understand that telling that it isn't important is going to increase my curiosity right?" He questioned, with a sassy expression on his face.

  I laughed, "Is it now?"

He punched my elbow lightly. "You have to be mad if you think you could get away with this, acting like a novice. You know that about me, the more you make something less important or try to dismiss it, the more I'll get curious." He lectured.

I rolled my eyes, "alright, alright, fine, I'll tell you how it went." I replied giving in.

"Great!" He beamed, "now start talking."

I took a sip of warm cappuccino, "well I got to the club, remember that lady, the Uber driver that took us to the amusement Park last time?" I asked expectantly.

Magnus has the memory of a goldfish sometimes, so I won't be surprised if he has forgotten.

He thought for a few seconds, "yes, yes, I remember her. The one that you got to take her number right?"

  I nodded.

"Did you even call her?" He questioned crossing his arms and looking at me suspiciously.

"What?" I asked shrugging, "I've been busy since then, you know how busy I've been," I whined.

"So you didn't call her," he insisted monotonously, staring at me with cold disappointed eyes, such a drama king.

  "I didn't call her," I responded conclusively.

He scoffed with his lips downturn in disapproval. "So how was she related to your clubbing affair?" He asked leaning back in his seat. "Did you find her in the club?"

I nodded, "yes, she is a very attractive female, I watched her for a while, as she danced with another female, but then she saw me and walked up to me at once."

"Was she mad at you for not calling?" Magnus asked.

"She didn't," my eyebrows furrowed a bit. "She wasn't mad, she walked up to me, introduced herself as Eve, and then when she asked me why I didn't call, I explained to her that I had been busy and it skipped my mind."

"She seems nice," Magnus chipped in.

  I shrugged. "I couldn't tell,"

"So what happened next?" He pressed further.

"She insisted that I dance with her, which we did, she's a good dancer." I smiled a bit.

"Why are you smiling?" Magnus questioned.

I stared at him in bewilderment, "can't just smile because want to?"

He huffed. "Anyways, continue." He encouraged.

"We danced and when she got it tired, we ordered drinks. I soon got bored and-"

"-oh, so she's a boring person?" Magnus chimed in.

"No Magnus, stop interrupting me, she isn't." I rolled my eyes again, I've been doing that a lot, Magnus can be so impatient sometimes, which is a huge contradiction when compared to how patiently he is willing to wait for things he wants. "It just wanted to go out of the club for some fresh air."

The thought of the events that my one action led to brought an unintentional smile on my face.

"You're doing it again," Magnus said out loud, "you're smiling!" He accused.

I rolled my eyes, "shut up Magnus,"

"Something crazy happened yeah?" He teased wiggling his full eyebrows and bringing his face close to mine.

"Well," I drawled pushing his face away from mine. "I went out for a smoke, and well I met Alexey," I sighed, wincing inwardly as I waited for his well-expected reaction.

He looked surprised, while he tried to figure out a reply to give.

  "What?" I asked expectantly.

"He is everywhere," he muttered. "Did he say why he was at the club? I mean there are other clubs in the state, why didn't he have to come to the one you were at?" Magnus questioned.

I shrugged, "as if I know, I never got to ask him." I never got to do anything I planned to do.

My phone rang, it was a call from an unknown number.

"Who is this please?" Only a few people have access to my number, and they are not unknown to me because I have their numbers saved too.

  "Hello, beautiful,"
