Chapter 32

  Irena

"Mr. Monterey?" I asked surprised. How did he get my number?

"How are you doing beautiful?" Monterey asked, he sounded tired.

"I'm fine, are you okay?" I asked in concern, the Monterey I remember was a cheerful-sounding man.

"Not really, I called because ever since my wife died I've not had anyone to talk to and you remind me of her, in a way, so I decided to talk to you. And besides, companionship is part of your services right?"

I nodded in agreement even though he couldn't see me. "Yes, do you want me to come to your location?" I inquired, I was kind of in the middle of something, but I wouldn't mind making out time for him. Magnus was nursing a worried expression on his face.

"No, no, no, don't worry about that, I wouldn't want to cause any obstruction or changes that are uncalled for in your plans," he dismissed, "I'll just talk to you over the phone."

"Well if you insist Mr. Monterey, I'm all ears."

"I'm guessing that you're alone?" He inquired cautiously.

I nodded, staring hard at Magnus before telepathically telling him that my client wants privacy, and since going a few distances away wouldn't stop him from hearing our conversation, he should just avoid noisy, sudden movements.

"Yes Mr. Monterey, I'm alone, don't be worried," I assured.

He sighed. "Well some days ago, a business partner punched me. Well, a would-be business partner to be precise." He began. What the fuck? Who would do that? "Now I didn't know why he did that, because I honestly didn't do anything bad, I was escorting him out of my hotel, having a conversation with him, and out of the blue, he punched me."

I was frowning already, annoyed by the daftness of many humans. "Who the hell is he?"

"Well, I don't know much about him beneath the surface, but one of my bodyguards informed me that the both of you had a little exchange of words in front of my door before you left and before he came in." He went on.

My eyes widened in shock, Alexey?

Oh, my words! This is even worse than I thought.

"I'm- I'm so sorry Mr. Monterey," I stuttered in apology, "I am unaware of this," that prick! I complained about him disturbing my business, not knowing that he had done something worse.

"I know, I kind of think that he was involved with you, do you happen to be in a relationship with him?" Monterey asked quietly.

"No Mr. Monterey, nothing of that sort." I was quick to dismiss it. "What are you going to do with him?" I inquired curiously, eager to change the topic.

Mr. Monterey laughed a little, "nothing,"

I was a little surprised, "nothing?" I found it hard to believe, even Magnus looked surprised. I immediately put my index finger on my lips, reminding him to remain quiet, before he blurts something out of surprise.

Mr. Monterey laughed loudly, "yes, I wouldn't be doing anything to Mr. Kojav, I'll only be withdrawing the potential business deal we were going to have. You sound surprised beautiful, why?"

"Well, he punched you and you did nothing bad to him, most people wouldn't take that and just let it be," I stated impressed by his choices, not a lot of men would do what he did, heck I wouldn't even do what he did.

"Well, I feel like he did what he did out of jealousy, we are men, it is the way we behave, we are possessive and territorial and once we've marked something like ours, it becomes a problem when someone else uses it. We don't like sharing." He explained.

  But still, "he punched you,"

"And I'm not bothered about it," Mr. Monterey concluded. "You should give him a chance, not that I think about it, it is definitely because you rendered your amazing services to me, because throughout the meeting he seemed to be on edge, and I guess talking about how a woman aids in a man's relaxation while I escorted him out, pushed him off the edge." Monterey went on to explain in realization.

"It still isn't an excuse for being violent," I fumed forming my hands into fists.

"No one is perfect, beautiful," he sounded like he was smiling.

"Are you smiling?" I asked surprised.

He laughed, "yes, I happen to be,"

"Why?" I asked in a whisper.

"I was no different when j first met my wife, she was beautiful and fierce just like you, and I was a calm, cool-headed young businessman-" I don't see any change in that, "- one time, before I dared to ask her on a date despite seeing her in her coffee shop every day, during my breaks, I saw her kiss a guy, and I got so angry, so angry that I fought him, I found the man I saw her kissing. Turns out that he was her boyfriend then," we both started laughing hard.

"What did she do?" I asked after a minute of laughter.

"Nothing, people in the shop separated me and her boyfriend, but I got her attention, that's for sure, and every time I came to that coffee house, she called me her punch line. She later broke up with her boyfriend for reasons I can't remember, and I was just glad that the lady I wanted was single, and me being me, I swept her off her feet and won her heart." He finished, he sounded better and it brought a smile to my face.

"How did she die?" I asked quietly.

  "Cancer," he whispered back.

  "Do you feel better?"

"Much much better," he was smiling.

I looked at Magnus to see that he was pouting with teary eyes.

'That was beautiful,' he mouthed. I gave him the stink eye before ignoring him.

"I'm glad you're feeling better," I told Monterey.

"And thank you for listening to me,"

I laughed, "after what Mr. Kojav did to you? I owe you one," I protested.

He laughed again, "You should talk to him and give him a chance," Monterey advised.

"We aren't in any disagreement, we're cool with each other, I'm just finding out about what he did to you," I responded.

He hummed, "well, I have a busy day ahead, this was very mind and healthy, I have to go,"

I smiled fondly and nodded. "Alright Mr. Monterey, it was nice talking to you, I hope you have a nice day"

"You too," he answered cheerfully before ending the call.

"Now that was one hell of a conversation," Magnus commented as soon as the call ended.

I looked at him like he was ridiculous. "He is an amazing man," I retorted.

Magnus nodded in agreement, spreading his arms wide in defense, "no argument there. Did Alexey really punch him?" He asked lowering his voice.

My eyebrows furrowed in annoyance at the remembrance of his nonsense.

"And to think that I promised to go on a date with him," I scolded myself.

  Magnus gaped, "you what?!"

I forgot that I haven't told him the rest of the story.

"Well, yes." I rolled my eyes.

"When? Were you going to tell me?" He probed.

"Chill, will you? Yeah, I was going to tell you. You see when we met, we kind of had sex again,"

Magnus's eyes looked like there were going to pop out of their sockets. "You guys fucked??!" He exclaimed.

"It's the craziest thing," I began.

"Is it? You think?" Magnus questioned sarcastically, "you think it's crazy? What happened to all your rant about telling him off the next time you see him?"

I laughed nervously, "that's why it's the craziest thing, one minute we were bantering, the next minute we were fucking in his car,"

"In his fucking car Irena! You fucked a man in his car!" Magnus exclaimed again.

I tried to shush him, "calm down, you're going to cause unwanted attention." I warned.

My phone beeped, as I received a message. I took out my phone and checked, it was a voice message from another unknown number.
