Chapter 61

  Magic

  Irena's POV

"She'll be fine," Dr. Cells said, wiping his hands on a napkin. "From the injury on her head, I could tell that she was hit with something, knocking her out in the process," he shook his head sadly.

"A vampire did this, right? This couldn't be done by humans," I stated with a firm tone.

He nodded in agreement, " yes, that's true. The force of impact will shatter a human's head,"

"why would anyone do this?" I was still confused about it. "Why would anyone go this far to threaten me?"

Dr. Cells shrugged, " I guess they just want to threaten you," he placed a hand on my shoulder. " You're a powerful woman Irena, you have many enemies,"

"I will find the person that did this" I swore vehemently. I wouldn't let anyone that hurt the people I care about go scot-free.

“surely they would want to threaten you, plus the whole situation about killing Pompeii, some of his men would want retaliate,”

I looked at him like he just told the biggest joke in history. “Are you fucking serious? I appointed Pompeii to rule a district of Russia, he isn’t even a true ruler. I could lead the entirety of Los Angeles and Russia myself and I shared power with him and five other people and his followers have the guts to act like fools over the wrong thing Pompeii had done? They should even be grateful to me for sparing their fucking lives,” I spat out angrily, I was fuming.

Dr. Cells laughed, ‘calm your horses Irena, I didn’t say they are the one behind it, it is just a thesis,”

I snorted, “Still, it doesn’t change anything and when I find the person or people behind this, I’m going to hurt them so badly, it would be a lesson to the rest,” I looked at August’s sleeping form with a sad expression on my face.

I was so angry, “the fact that they had killed an innocent human just to threaten me, shows that they’re begging for it, they're pleading for my wrath,”

Dr. Cells hummed, thinking for some time. “You said the dead person turned out not to be some human and not a vampire at all?” he asked, still deep in thought.

I nodded, looking at him expectantly. Dr. Cells was a very old vampire who had so much knowledge about vampires and other forms of the supernatural. “Yes, the body appeared to be August’s at first, and then when August was found, the body changed and we discovered that it was the body of a random human. Do you know anything about this?” I was hoping he did, as it would be of great use.

he stroked his chin, “it's magic,” he stated.

“Magic?” I was surprised. There is no vampire alive practicing magic; it was one of the rarest things among vampires.

He nodded, “yes, magic. Whoever did that could be practicing magic or has access to someone who does,”

“That's impossible,” but then it could be possible. I mean crazy things have been happening in the past months.

“oh, it is actually quite possible. Look at it, a human disguised to look like August or what about you, the other time you got shot with silver bullets by the mafia boss. You are the fastest and the most powerful vampire alive, you can dodge almost anything, most especially traveling bullets but you are unable to use your powers. Further proof of you being unable to use your powers was when you said you were unable to read the minds of the people at the party. Something suppressed your abilities and the only logical thing I can think of is magic. It's rather evident that Fabian was aware of who you are and planned on killing you before the whole thing escalated. It is almost certain that the mafia boss is working with a vampire and one that is powerful as they seem to have access to magic,”

I thought about everything Dr. Cells said and I couldn’t help but agree with it. They had to have access to someone powerful to be able to do stuff like that. But why would Fabian want to kill me? I mean I’ve done nothing bad to the man, so why would he try to kill me? Or what if he was promised something he couldn’t resist? Fabian is a very greedy man as most mafia bosses are and top hat with him being naturally greedy and selfish, it makes him a very dangerous man.

“That is all I have to say regarding this,” he picked up his bag. “I have some issues I want to deal with today. Nice hoodie by the way,”

I looked down at the hoodie, having forgotten that I had hurriedly worn it Alexey had given me when I needed a change of clothes at his place.

"Thanks," I muttered. Surprised at the small smile that crawled on my lips.

"Seems like it came with memories," he was smiling at me teasingly. He had figured that it wasn't mine.

" How did you know that it does not belong to me?" I asked curiously, fighting to stop the heat from rushing to my face.

"That's a stupid question Irena, you're acting dumb, you must be in love," he taunted, smirking.

I pouted at him, " no I'm not in love," I figured that he knew because the hoodie had Alexey's scent on it. "I just changed body spray," I lied defensively.

Dr. Cells laughed, "I watched you grow up Irena, I can tell when you're lying," he shook his and walked out the door.

I frowned, what does he think I'm lying about? A change of scent or being in love?

I wasn't in love with Alexey, that's impossible and quite far-fetched.

I wonder how he felt when I suddenly asked to be driven to the club, our date was ruined in a way I guess. It was the last time I would be hanging out with him and I wasn't able to enjoy the whole day because some people thought they could scare me. They only managed to stir my wrath.

I felt ashamed of myself for thinking about a man when I had pressing issues to deal with.

I checked on August again, she was still asleep, no longer unconscious.

Magnus and some of my girls, along with some guards who I figured were off duty because they wouldn't dare leave their post vacant for reasons that aren't related to their jobs.

I went to the living room to meet Magnus while the rest of the girls decided that they would wait in the room for August to wake up.

"Hey," Magnus called as I sat next to him. " How is she?" He looked tired.

" She's fine now, Cells said she was hit on the head with something heavy, to knock her unconscious," I sounded tired too.

He sighed and his brows furrowed in a frown. "That means vampires did this,"

I nodded, glad he quickly figured it out.

"Matt said he found her in a corner, among wooden crates," yeah I was in such a hurry to ensure that August was fine and then I forgot to ask Matt and Raphael where they had found her body.

"Do you think Pompeii's men are involved?" Magnus asked thoughtfully.

I shrugged, staring at nothing in particular, "they could be. Dr. Cells says that magic is involved,"

Magnus didn't seem surprised, " that's highly possible, after all, they had disguised a human to look like August," he paused. " Fabian Ruiz could also be involved,"

I nodded. " I'll get them, and they will pay for this. For the death of the human and for hurting August," I swore bitterly.

" I'm with you on that," Magnus said in support.

" Have the scene of the crime been cleared properly?"

He nodded, " yes, I saw to it that every trace of whatever happened there was completely removed,"

" Does the hoodie you have on belong to Alexey?" He asked out of nowhere. Nothing gets past Magnus's attention.

I nodded, "I was with him, remember?"

He laughed lightly, "figures, it doesn't smell like you at all,"

  I rolled my eyes, whatever.

" So I'm guessing your date had to end quickly?" He asked, looking at me with a knowing smile on his lips.

I sighed, "yeah," I dragged the last part of the word.

  "That must have sucked,"

I nodded, indeed. "But it was fun, while it lasted,"

"I noticed," he stared at the hoodie.

I facepalmed, " not because of the hoodie dumb, dumb. One moment you were figuring things out smartly and now it seems like you've run out of intelligence," I glanced at him disappointingly and clicked my tongue thrice.

Magnus laughed, "what? I mean you smell like him, I recognize his scent from when we went to his place when you got shot, "

I rolled my eyes. I can't take Magnus seriously. " Speaking of getting shot, Dr. Cells said magic was most definitely involved because I was kind of powerless throughout the party. I mean I couldn't dodge a fucking bullet and he also figured out that Fabian must have been working with a vampire,"

Magnus nodded, " that is very likely,"

Someone suddenly screamed from August's room.
