Chapter SIXTY-FIVE

  Two heads joined

  Irena's POV

"Alright, let's start from the first enemy we ever made," I said, uncapping my pen.

"You think he could be behind this?" Magnus whispered.

" No, definitely not, don't even go there. He's long gone," I whispered back, dismissing him.

Magnus laughed, "all right then, so the ones alive right?"

I looked at him as if he had said the most ridiculous thing, " really Magnus, are you really asking that? Of course, they'll be alive Magnus why the fuck should we be worried about dead people?! " I facepalmed. Sometimes Magnus acted like a fucking child.

“So who do we start with?” Magnus asked, opening a can of water.

I sighed, “I don’t even know, I have so many enemies,” And trying to list them out would be so much work.

Magnus laughed. “alright, rather than going straight to thinking about and listing all the enemies we have ever had, why don’t we piece together recent events and try to see if we can track down those who we think would be fit to carry out actions like that,” he suggested, placing the can of water back on the table and resting his arms on the table.

  I nodded, “that works,”

“Okay then, you tell,” he pulled the book and pen to himself. “and I will write,”

I smiled and leaned on the table too, “Okay, the first mysterious case we had was at the party,”

  “What party?”

“Fabian Ruiz’s party?” I looked at him curiously, what was this fuck up to.

  “Held where?”

“At the club?” okay, why the fuck is Magnus asking dumb questions?

“What club Irena? You own many clubs, is it Sodom city in Illinois? Sodom city in Russia? Sodom city in Mexico? Sodom city here in Los Angeles? Which of the fucking club Irena, be specific and straight to the point,” he facepalmed dramatically. This motherfucker!

  “Fuck you, Magnus,”

He closed his eyes and shook his head in disapproval, “you still haven’t answered the fucking question,”

"Sodom City here in Los Angeles," I gave him the stink eye. Way to ask for specifics when he knew what I was talking about. "Fabian Ruiz III party held at the club here in Los Angeles," I added before he asked another annoying question.

"Good, that's how you do it," He nodded, scribbling what I said on the notepad.

I rolled my eyes. "So at the party, I was unable to do anything telepathic, and when he shot at me with silver bullets-"

" -unable to use the telepathic ability, shot with a silver bullet," Magnus wrote intensely, frowning in focus at the points he was writing.

I rolled my eyes again, I think from the sheer number of times I'll be rolling my eyes, my pupils might be stuck somewhere in my fucking head.

"Wait, he didn't shoot at me, he shot at Alexey and I jumped in to push out of the bullet's trajectory because I was supposed to be fast and also injured by it. And I was also unaware that it was a silver bullet," I twisted a lock of my hair trying to reminisce about the incident.

"Okay, but I don't have to change anything I've written. You were unable to use your powers and Fabian Ruiz shot you with silver bullets,"

I hummed, "so points to note during that breakout?"

" Well as I've been repeating, you were unable to use your telepathic abilities, you got shot,"

I nodded, " yeah, and me getting shot mean I wasn't able to use my physical ability to be specific, I was unable to run fast and push Alexey away in time to avoid the bullets and ended up getting shot,"

Magnus nodded, " Is that all?"

I remembered another, "the security cameras were tampered with. We were unable to find footage of anyone sneaking in weapons because everyone that got into Fabian's party was searched thoroughly, including Fabian,"

" So that means it must have been snuck into the club before the party started, weeks before it started even,"

" Or else, one of the security guards let them in,"

Magnus' eyes widened again and he quickly scribbled it down.

" Alright, we've figured out one thing. We have nothing on Fabian's whereabouts. The last location we had was Mexico but since then we've had nothing."

" The next weird thing that happened was Pompeii's words to you-"

" -Nah, I don't think we should focus on that. I have had my eyes and ears down though, but we can't let his word be a distraction,"

"Are you sure?" Magnus asked, sounding unsure.

  " Very sure,"

" Alright, following Pompeii's death, we know he had his men and they could be very vengeful in respect of you pardoning the lives of some of them. They would want to have revenge on you, for their master's death. Granted he was ruling Russia under your instructions, but he is a powerful man,"

" That's true. So Pompeii's men could be on the suspect list," I agreed, peering at the notepad.

" So Pompeii's men,'' Magnus dragged, scribbling the words on the notepad.

"And then I received a threatening letter at Alexey's country house," speaking of Alexey he did promise to call later. I looked at the clock on the restaurant wall. It was past nine. Is he going to call? And why hasn't he called?

I sounded like a fucking girlfriend.

"And in the letter, I was told that those I care about would be hurt,"

Magnus nodded, scribbling more words on the notepad.

"And then this, Lesley gets a fake appointment call from a client, and August gets kidnapped and framed for the death of a human," I continued, thinking of more things to say.

Magnus looked up. "The question now is why would anyone try to warn you through August? Why August? Was August randomly picked? Or they were aware of how important August is to you?"

We spent a few minutes thinking of possible answers to the questions.

"I don't think she was randomly chosen," I spoke up, breaking out thought-filled silence. "I think whoever was behind it knew that August is someone that I cared for a lot,"

Magnus nodded, " yes, and since August is not well known or famous among vampires, anyone that knows that she is close to you must be in the club,"

" Exactly, and that's more proof that we have a mole in this club," I added. " I need to call Lesley now,"

Magnus frowned slightly, " for what reason?"

"The client that had called, was the client new? Or a regular customer? And had the person specifically asked for August? I want to ask Lesley these questions as they would help find out if August was intentionally ordered for the job or not," I replied.

  "That makes sense,"

I dialed Lesley's number and she answered the call immediately.

"Good evening Madam," she greeted, "how's August?"

"She's better now. I would like to know a few things, Lesley,"

I heard her exhale, " alright, please go on ma,"

" The client that made the appointment leading to August's disappearance, was he a regular client or a new client?" One of my eyebrows was raised in expectancy.

"We've never had the client before, he was new," she replied after a few seconds of thought.

"What was the name he gave?"

I didn't expect him to give his real name.

  "Andy Wagon,"

  American.

"Alright, did he specifically ask that August be the escort brought to him?" Her answer would determine many things.

" No, but he had said he would prefer someone that fits August's physique, as such physiques would match his preference."

So he could have asked that August be brought to him, but he didn't want to be suspected and declined because it was against the rules to ask for the service of a particular person without the person's knowledge of the client and approval. And this rule doesn't apply to meeting clients. New clients are not allowed to ask for a specific escort.

So I could assume that he was aware of this rule and worked with it.

  "Alright, thanks and good night,"

  I hung up and sighed.

" So?" Magnus asked, wanting me to tell him how the conversation had gone.

"She said the client was new, goes by the name Andy Wagon, and hadn't exactly asked that August was brought to him. Instead, he had out his taste in female physiques that matched August's, and then she was the escort given the job,"

Magnus nodded, I could see the engines running in his head as he tried to link everything together. "That means the person was aware of the club's rule about new clients being unable to ask for specifics escorts and he managed to outsmart Lesley by telling her his taste in women,"

I nodded, " that also means someone must have informed him of these rules," he added.

" Further proof that there is a mole among us," I replied, unlocking my phone. " Andy Wagon, I'm going to text the name to Carlos, when he's done with his date and all, he should help me search for the person or people bearing the name in this city,"

" His name sounds fake, made up," Magnus commented, scribbling the name on the notepad.

  I nodded, agreeing with him.
