Chapter 12

  Carlisle

“So you brought me here not because you missed me or wanted to meet me, your daughter!! but because you want to use me as a pawn?”

My mother is shocked at my outburst and she struggles to keep her facial expression plain, raising her head in what I now believe is a way of her calculating her every move and words.

“I did miss you. The thought of seeing my daughter was one that filled me with joy. When I heard your father the king of fae was dead, I was overjoyed as I believed I would finally have the chance to go back there to take you but our spies in the Fae kingdom sent back news that you had been cast out of the palace by your step brothers and their mother, I panicked and tried to think of a way to bring you back but you’d already gotten thrown into the evil forest.”

“So what? Your encompassing motherly love did not push you to come save me?”

“I could not! Stop being an impertinent child and let me finish.”

I recoil back at her tone and all the anger I have bottled in from years of lack of motherly love explodes,

“Impertinent? How dare you? You left your child when she was just a baby, a child that still needed to be fed by her mother. I spent years in that palace with no love, the only love I got was from my father’s sister who was killed for loving me. I was treated like an outcast and immediately my father died, I was thrown out, beaten and left to die. Yet I survived and you dare call me impertinent?”

My mother opens her mouth to answer me but I cut her off.

“And I do not want to hear any excuses you may have because now I hear you had spies in my father’s kingdom, yet not once did you tell your spies to try speaking to me and letting me know my mother was alive. Neither did you try to sneak me out to speak to me, there was nothing but silence from you. Yet you say you loved me? The only reason I am here is because your people need me. Once again, you are choosing these people over being my mother.”

“Whatever it is you need me for, I’m going to pretend I can stomach it but once my mate gets here, I am leaving with him and there’s nothing you or any of your people can do about it. If you even try to stop me, I’ll kill myself. Then I’ll see how useful I can be.”

My mother gasps and horror is written all over her face, as though she can’t believe I would actually do it.

“If you think I don’t know how to kill a night walker, then you underestimate the knowledge my father had drummed into the head of his supposed favorite child.”

My mother chokes on air and I see tears streaming down her face, I almost feel guilty but the thoughts of the nights I cried myself to sleep wishing I’d see the woman that birthed me even once hardened my heart.

“Please leave, I’d like to finish my bath and rest up. You wanted me to meet your people, I need to be well rested to do that.”

Nodding her head sharply, my mother rushes out of the bathroom. Sitting down back in the tub, I rest my head on my legs and begin to sob.

By the time I make it out of the bathroom, I am exhausted from how much I have cried. Making my way to the bed, I pick a dress from the options I was left with and tug it on. Settling down, I wolf down the food that was left on the table too, as I remember that the last meal I’d had was the one served to me after my last bath at Damon’s home.

After I swallow the last bite of the meal of soup, garlic bread and meat I was given, I push the plate away from me and lay down on the bed, with plans to get my emotions in order but I doze off, when I eventually wake up, it is dark out and there’s a knock on the door of what I believe is now my room. A woman with white hair, who I believe is also a guardian, pokes her head in and seeing that I am seated up on the bed, she steps in and bows her head.

“Princess, your mother asked that you be brought, it is time for the meeting. Let me help you get ready.”

“A meeting? Who will be there?”

“All the guardians, trolls, witches and everyone the guardians are currently in alliance with.”

“There are more people involved in this alliance?”

“Yes, your highness and you are fated to rule them all one day.”

  “What?”
