Chapter 14

  Carlisle

The guardian sent to call me from the room leads the way out of it, we burst out to a pathway that I did not notice when I had entered the room with my mother.

The pathways to where I assumed would be another throne room was well decorated and lit up with bright lights and more golf that screamed opulence of the trolls, who Camille the guardian that was sent to pick me had told me were governed by a half human, half troll king. We stopped in front of a huge gate but when Camille tapped on the doors, it was opened to reveal what I suspected it would be, a huge throne room. We were ushered in and I walked in timidly in awe of how large the throne room was. It put a shame to even that of my father’s who I had always thought had the largest throne room.

There were large banisters that wrapped around walls that seemed coated in good and golden chandeliers. I marveled at the excessive display of wealth I had seen since I was brought into the land of the trolls. It made me recall my father telling me that trolls were supposedly the richest after goblins and also most likely to own a lot of gold out of the supernaturals as they like the goblins had the ability to sniff out gold and riches. Even if they were well hidden.

Realizing that I was probably gaping with my mouth wide open sin a room full of people, I snap my mouth shut and finally focus on the audience in the room. I let out another gasp at just how much they are.

Situated in the middle of the massive throne room is an equally massive throne and seated on it is a large looking figured who is probably the king of the trolls and to his left on a smaller throne is my mother who I now know is the queen of the guardians and right besides her is a woman with black hair and a face so mesmerizing, I have to force myself to look away. My fae senses can tell that she has a lot of magic in her, she’s either just a sorceress or the Queen of the witches.

Flanking the troll king on his right hand side is a tiny and weird looking creature that I have only seen in books and heard of in whispered words, a goblin and right beside it is another creature of myth. A fairy. I learnt at an early age from my father and my lesson teachers at the fae palace that fairies were not the same thing as the faes. We were closely related but not the same.

While fairies possessed wings that could not be hidden, the fae could choose to hide theirs and not ever fae was born with wings and we could always pass for humans with the exception of the magical aura that we emitted, which would alert any powerful beings that we were far from humans.

Surrounding their leaders were trolls, witches, fairies, goblins and guardians who were almost hidden except you looked closely. They all looked nervous. I suspected my mother had alerted them of our argument.

The witch smiled at me. A knowing smile. As though she could see through me or as though she could read my mind but I know that was not possible for witches. So I smiled back at her too, making sure I looked smug, even though I felt anything but.

She threw her head back and laughed, turning to whisper something to my mother who in turn stared at me strangely as if seeing me in a new light. The throne room boomed and I jumped at the sound, thinking we were being attacked but it was just the troll king holding a bell he had hit to gain the attention of everyone in the room.

“Welcome everyone. I’m sure you are all wondering why we were called here today, fear not, I am too.”

The room immediately echoed with laughter, though mostly nervous laughter and the troll king continued.

“I am wondering what we’ll be discussing today but I’ll leave it to the queen of nightwalkers to explain. Well, carry on then.”

My mother bows slightly to the king, avoids my eyes and begins to speak.

“First I want to introduce you to my daughter princess Carlisle Tiana. Princess of Fae kingdom and also the princess of the night walkers.”

The room bursts into hurried whispers as my mother finishes my introduction and I can immediately feel all eyes on me.

“Hi?” I say waving. My mother continues with her speech.

“Today, we are gathered here not just for the introduction of my daughter but because it is now time for us to discuss the prophecy that we have fought hard to keep a secret all this time. A child born of an hybrid and a wolf. The one who will become king of all supernaturals, my grandson.”

I glare at my mother but she is doing a good job at avoiding my eyes.

Biting my lips to keep from screaming out at her, I start counting backwards in my head to distract myself from the anger I feel.

My mother continues on with her speech, recounting all that she told me in the bathroom, leaving out our argument as expected. I snap out of my irritation when I hear my mother mention Damon.

“The Wolf was caught following a map here, he’s being brought here by the trolls. When he gets here, we will allow him negotiate his release by promising that we will have an alliance with his son and”

Cutting my mother off, I storm towards her throne in anger and point my hand at her.

“What is wrong with you? What part of my explanation did you not understand? I don’t want anything to do with you or your grand plan and neither will Damon when he hears just how crazy you lot are. You want to turn an unborn child into a pawn the way you turned your own child into a pawn? You are not just a terrible mother, you are a terrible person too.“

As I finish my tirade, the witch claps and chuckles. “Oh she’s a feisty one. She’s just like you Rose. How amazing.”

She turns to me and give me a smug smile, “it’s beautiful that you think you can choose but child, if you refuse to help us, we will make sure you and your mate have no chance of mating again. You do know what that means?”

“You can’t kill Damon, if you do, you’ll start the war you are trying to avoid.”

“It’ll be puny wolves against all of us here, who would win? And who said anything about Damon?”

Choking, I take a step back and snap my hand to look at my mother who is once against, avoiding my eyes.

“Of course, you are avoiding looking at me. You are such a coward mother. You’d kill me to protect your alliance? Do it then. Kill me. I don’t want to live if I’m your daughter anyway.”

The door of the throne room is pushed open and a score of wolves come rushing in. One stops directly in front of me and changes, “Carlisle.”

I gasp as Damon touches my face in awe. “You are safe.”

He says as he grins at me, “I was so worried that you’d be hurt. Let’s go back to my home. Our home.”
