I stood in the middle of my new living room, hands on my hips, taking in the small but cozy apartment that Daisy and I had just finished furnishing. Sunlight poured through the wide windows, catching dust motes and highlighting the pale-blue walls we'd spent all yesterday painting.

"What do you think?" I asked, turning to Daisy who was arranging throw pillows on our new cream-colored sofa.
