Xavier's hands around my throat weren't as intimidating as he thought they were. I'd been through worse. Much worse.

These idiots actually think they can scare me.

But I need to be careful. They're not as stupid as I hoped.

"Why did you do it?" Xavier demanded again, his grip tightening. "Why did you drug our daughter?"

I had to think fast. The truth was, I didn't drug anyone. But when I saw little Mira getting separated from the group in the crowd, I saw an opportunity.
