Looking at Mia's face - the shock, the betrayal, the hurt in her eyes - I realized how badly I'd miscalculated everything. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. I'd only wanted to scare her a little, make her understand how serious the situation was, then reveal myself and explain everything properly.
