2. Loan Shark

"Anastasia Baker! Wake up!" Aby's voice was sharp and loud from outside the bedroom. Ana's body ached all over. After she had taken Aby home last night, she had to go back to the brothel and serve a few more customers.

"Ugh." Ana opened her eyes. She smelled omelets in the morning. "Hungry."

Ana quickly got up and left the room. Aby was busy tidying up the small apartment that Marie had left behind. Well, at least Marie had left them this small apartment. They didn't have to rent because it belonged to Marie.

Aby saw that her sister looked a mess. She felt for her sister, who had to become a dirty woman to make money.

"Eat up," Aby said. "I'm heading to school. Oh, by the way, Hero said you don't need to come."

Ana sat down and grabbed the omelet on the plate. "Why?" Ana asked. "Why would he trash the house if he didn't want me to come?"

Aby shrugged her shoulders. "I have no idea," Aby replied. She then put some things that had been put into a plastic bag. There were a lot of broken items. One of them was a photo frame of Ana, Aby, and Marie.

"I'll take this trash to school with me. You just enjoy your breakfast," Aby said. She then walked over to Ana and hugged her. "I love you so much, Ana."

Ana was surprised by her sister’s words. "Sure. Love you too." It wasn't like her sister to be so expressive with her words.

Aby left, carrying the plastic bag full of broken items. Meanwhile, Ana enjoyed her breakfast. She then opened her phone and checked the notifications on her account.

"Eight hundred and fifty thousand dollars left." Ana sighed. "If only I had a customer who could pay me a million dollars." Ana suddenly fantasized about someone who could save her. But then she shook her head. "Cinderella syndrome. I have to be realistic. Who pays a prostitute a million dollars?"

Ana then got ready to leave the house. She had to go pay Hero. She couldn't waste the money she had earned last night.

Ana wore a denim jacket over a tank top. She also wore denim pants, which made her not look like a prostitute. Her outfit was very casual and modern.

Ana left the house. She waited for a taxi on the side of the road. The day was very bright for some people. Unfortunately, until that one million dollars was paid off, there were no bright days for Ana. She hated her mother for getting into so much debt and then running away. Her mother was a single mom. Ana used to be so proud of her mother. But because of this debt, Ana hated her. She also wondered what all that money was even for.

A taxi came to a stop in front of Ana. She was about to get in, but from behind, a luxury car crashed into the back. The shiny black car seemed unaware that a taxi was stopped in front of it.

"I am so sorry, Miss. I just… I just made a mistake." An old man got out of the car. He looked apologetic.

"Well, I'm okay." Ana didn't want to make a big deal out of it. But she was confused because the passenger in the back seat of the luxury car didn't seem to care at all. He was engrossed in his newspaper. "Who is that?" Ana asked. "Why doesn't he care?"

The old man seemed panicked. He then handed Ana a business card. "Call me if you need to talk about anything. Tell the taxi driver I will pay for the damages. I have to go now."

The old man got back into the car. He looked like he was scared or worried. Ana stared at him in confusion, especially at the man in the back seat. He was handsome, pale, and cold. Maybe he was a vampire? Oh, Ana was probably watching too many fantasy movies.

Ana arrived at Hero’s office. Even though Aby said she didn't need to come, Ana had to make a payment on the debt. She just wanted the debt to be paid off as soon as possible.

Two men in all-black and with muscular bodies stood in front of the entrance with the sign: "Hero Finance." Hero was really hiding behind this business.

"I want to see Hero," Ana said.

The two men had to check if Ana was carrying anything dangerous. This was where Ana felt uncomfortable. She might be a prostitute, but she wasn't working right now. She didn't like her body being touched without a payment.

"Come on in," one of the men said after confirming there was nothing strange about Ana. Ana walked into the room. She didn’t see anyone there.

"Hello?" Ana called out. "Hero. I came to pay the debt."

Ana didn't hear a reply. Instead, she heard a commotion from behind a door. It seemed Hero was having some fun in the morning.

Ana decided to wait. She looked around Hero's room. This place was truly deceptive. Hero wasn't doing any business except gambling and lending money.

A little while later, Hero came out of a secret door. He looked a little surprised when he saw Ana.

"Oh, Ana Baker," Hero greeted.

But something made Ana very shocked. Aby came out of the secret room with a bruised face. Her clothes were also not properly covered. Ana's body was shaking, and she was in complete shock.

"Ana?" Aby was also shocked to see her sister in the room.

"What are you doing here?" Ana asked with a trembling voice. Ana glanced at Hero, who was scratching his head. It seemed he had been caught.

Ana stood up and held Aby's body. She saw that Aby's neck was full of kiss marks. Ana realized that Aby had done something indecent with Hero.

"What the hell are you doing with that bastard!" Ana yelled.

Aby cried. She felt so guilty. "I just wanted to help you. Hero said he'd consider Mom’s debt paid off if I was with him." Aby didn't know that Hero was just taking advantage of her. Hero was a loan shark. He liked money.

"No! No! Aby. You're not like this. You can't be like this!" Ana turned and walked towards Hero. She started hitting Hero for doing something so bad to her sister.

"You bastard! You bastard! If you wanted a woman, you could have slept with me. Why my sister? Why her?" Ana yelled.

Hero just smiled. He then grabbed Ana's hair, making Ana struggle. Ana couldn't fight Hero, who was a thug.

"I'm not interested in you. Your body has been used by many men. Your sister is fresher. And if you want me to let go of your sister, you have to pay off your mother’s debt. Your sister has already made an agreement with me. She has to stay with me until your mother’s debt is paid off." Hero was a master at being a bully. And this was incredibly painful for Aby.

"Please, not my sister. She's still young. Don't ruin her life." Ana pleaded for her sister.

Aby couldn't do anything but cry. She had already made this agreement with Hero. She only wanted to help Ana. She didn't understand that Ana was working hard to pay off the debt to Hero and also protect Aby.

"Aby will live with me until you pay off your mother's debt. That way you can’t take her and run away."

Hero added to Ana’s misery.

Ana was terrified. She was afraid because she couldn't protect her sister. What was she supposed to do now? Where could she get that much money to save Aby?
