The headlights of Jaxon’s car cut through the dark road until the lake house came into view — glowing, loud, alive. Even from a distance I could hear the thump of bass vibrating the night air. Cars were already lined up everywhere: on the driveway, the grass, even the dirt shoulder.

When Jaxon’s car rolled in, the crowd outside erupted into cheers.

“Prom King in the building!” someone shouted.
