It was early Tuesday morning. Indira was supposed to report for work, but she never did. And now a raging monster was spitting fire.
“Where the hell is she huh?” Ares was so angry. He hated incompetent people. So much for hiring a person and doesn’t show up for. She could as well say bye to her work.
“I don’t know sir… maybe she is still on her way” a quivering Tom said as he backed away. He was glad that his boss wanted a secretary in order to reduce his workload. But now the lady was not here.
“I don’t think she’s on her way, I think she’s somewhere having fun” he looked so annoyed. He was sure the lady who begged him for a job yesterday would have shown up earlier than him. But, no. if it wasn’t for Anton who begged him to give the lady a chance then, he wouldn’t have spared her a glance.
“You may go… and Tom, if you see her anywhere, tell her she’s fired.” He said and dismissed him. He slumped down on his office chair. It was good that the dirty lady will never bother him again. He fixed his eyes on his laptop and continued doing his job.
“Why the hell did you fire Indira? She has not even started her job yet” Anton burst into his office. There was nothing that Ares hated than someone who entered either in his office or his room without knocking. And Anton knew any better than to do that.
“Ares I’m talking to you!” Anton had to shout seeing his friend ignore him like thin air. His friend was impossible.
“Okay, who is Indira?” he asked, still looking at his laptop. He had work to do. Not mop around and listen to his friend’s nonsense.
“I can’t believe you!... Indira is the lady that came for an interview late and I begged you to hire her” Anton was now irritated with his friend, he was ignorant of everything…especially people he thought were unworthy of his attention.
“Oh! You mean that lady that you treat as if she’s your wife or anything…well I had to fire her because as you can see, she’s not” he gestured with his hands around the office.
“And you know that I don’t deal with incompetent people August!” he leaned back on his chair and crossed his long legs.
“Now if you don’t mind…let me do my work” he said through gritted teeth. He was wasting time talking to his friend who knew how to vex him.
“The lady did not show up because she fainted yesterday, in front of your company damnit” Anton shouted. It was enough. He knew Ares had problems of his own, but he had to take into account other people’s needs too.
“Then what has her fainting got to do with me?” Ares slammed his fist on the wooden table before him. Making all the materials on the table to make a rattling sound.
“Don’t you have any sympathy…I know what happened to you was very unfortunate…” he couldn’t finish his sentence when a hard blow landed on his clean face.
“Don’t you dare!” Ares growled out in anger and rage.
“Fine man…I won’t say anything. Just know that not every woman is the same. You might need her. Give her a chance” Anton raised his hands up in a surrender form. He didn’t mind the punch he received. He loved his friend so much that he wanted the best for him.
“Tomorrow she’s coming to work… think about what I said.” He picked up his coat and left Ares thinking to himself. He didn’t want a woman working as his secretary… because all women were the same…but
Were they?
But they all wanted his money and nothing. He wasn't about to ruin himself just for a little incompetent woman, who had no ability to even take care of herself. He groaned in frustration, if not for Anton feeling pity for the lady then he wouldn't take her back. He'd put her on probation, if she wasn't going to deliver, then she's out.
He needed people who'd bring progress to the company, that is why he specifically wanted a woman as a secretary. He knew women would bring ideas and vision.
He just hoped he wasn't making a mistake giving this one a chance.
…
“Doctor, can I go?” Indira asked the doctor who was attending to her. She felt a little better now.
“No miss…you can’t go. We need to monitor you one more day” the friendly doctor said with a smile on his face.
“Doctor, I have work to do, my boss is a raging dragon. Please discharge me” I had to plead to the doctor otherwise that dragon will spit fire on me.
“Unfortunately the person who brought you in said I should not discharge you before you feel better” the doctor said. And thinking about it I don’t remember who brought me to the hospital or what happened to me.
“Doctor who brought me to the hospital and where is that person now?” I decided to ask the doctor. If someone brought me in, then surely the person would still be here.
“He went away after bringing you these fruits.” He said after monitoring the water drip that was inserted on my wrist. It was painful. I guess I’ll be back to square one.
“Ok, miss. You’ll be discharged later today. Please take care of yourself” he looked at me beneath his spectacles and went out.
I laid there wondering who brought me in. maybe it was that receptionist or a passerby. And definitely it wasn't my boss, that man seemed to have no life or whatsoever. He seemed to be ruthless and didn't consider anyone's emotions when he did things.
I wonder how it'd feel working for such a man. I bet he despises women from just the way he looked at me. Either way I was glad I got a job and wouldn't do anything to jeopardise it.
