Tom didn’t believe that stupid people like Indira lived on this earth. How could she sign something that she didn’t read? But, he pitied her, she knew nothing about Ares Castillo. His boss was not to be trusted. Behind that handsome face, was a wolf. He knew he hated ladies, but still can trick and use them to get what he wants at any cost. Indira was innocent, hopefully she was not one of his prey. The lady knew nothing about these rich cunning men.
He had to sneak in and find whatever document she signed and tear it apart. She may have signed her death sentence. Tom shook his head and went to his boss’s office and found him busy.
“Um…sir, these are the files you asked for” he said and put the files on the table.
“Did you do what I asked you to do?” he asked without sparing him a glance.
“Yes sir, she’s already helping her” he answered politely. He was used to his boss’s rude behaviour. He wondered if he knew his name was Tom.
“Anything again Mr Mathews” Ares said looking up from his laptop. It seemed like he was waiting for something.
“No sir” he said, shaking his head and went out. It was strange that his boss did not assign him more work today. Was it supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing? He shook his head and wondered what document Indira signed.
The day went faster today and it was already lunch. I had to get something to eat so I could take my meds.
I went out and wanted to ask Tom where the cafeteria was. Before I could go into his office, Mr Castillo called me.
“Sir you called” I said lowering my head. It was to stare at him, especially when those hazel brown eyes stared intensely at me as if I was his prey.
“Yes. Please get me lunch. Here is my card” he said, pushing his card towards me. And turned to his work. Does this man even get tired? He has been working since morning.
“Sir, but the pin” he gave me a card without a pin to use. How was I supposed to purchase his food?
“7920” this time he was not looking at me, so, I went out only realising that he did not mention what he wanted for lunch.
“Sir you did not mention what I should get for you” I said dangling the card in my hand.
“Anything you think it’s healthy for me to eat” sounds impossible right now. How can I know what he prefers to eat or what I think it’s healthy? Without further ado, I went out avoiding arguing with my boss. Otherwise my job will be at stake and my lunch will end quickly. He didn’t even tell me where to order his food.
“Good afternoon ma'am. I would like to order a mushroom salad without garlic and steak with fruit juice.
I said to the waitress, after reaching the Royals restaurant. One of the biggest restaurants in the city. It was known for its healthy and delicious food. When I was still working at the restaurant I heard my co-workers saying the employees in this restaurant are paid more than any waiters and waitresses in the country. And their boss was filthy rich, except that no one knows who the boss is…
“Thank you…that was fast” I smiled at the waitress after waiting for a few minutes for the order. This restaurant is calm and quiet. There were few people having their meals quietly. I guess this is where the rich come to, to loosen up.
Arriving at the office, I went in, gave Mr Castillo his lunch and went out to buy my own. Surprisingly the man didn’t call me to complain like a kid, just like he complained about the coffee in the morning and burnt me. Maybe he was hungry.
I continued eating my meal. But there was this guy who kept looking at me weirdly.
“Hi I’m Johnson… I’ve never seen you before, I guess you’re new here” the guy who kept looking at me said as he came near me. I looked at him and stretched his hand.
“yes I’m new here” I said, not sure what to say and focused on my food.
“What’s your name?” he asked, smiling. He looked quite friendly. But, I didn’t want to make many friends on the first day. It could seem quite odd.
“Indira,” I replied nonchalantly.
“That’s a nice name you have Indira. Which department do you work in?” Can someone take this guy away from me? He was nagging me when all I wanted was to enjoy my meal.
“Secretary, to Mr Castillo” I said, wiping my mouth with a napkin. He looked shocked, not sure why.
“You are Mr Castillo’s secretary? Now this is a new one. Mr Castillo having a secretary for a woman” He chuckled as if whatever he was saying was amusing to him. Why would he say something like that?
“Why would you say that?” Tom was acting strange too. It’s not like he was a monster or something.
“Well, since I came here, I’ve never seen a woman working as the Secretary or PA to Mr Castillo. Rumour has it that he hates women to an extent that one slight mistake you’re fired. So be careful” he said in a hushed tone. Sweat trickled down my forehead as I drank the cold liquid soothing my throat. Was this why he was angry when I came for the interview or whenever he saw me? It almost felt like I was the one triggering his anger.
“And have you noticed that his office is the only one on the 12th floor?” Now that he spoke about it, I realised that there was only one office and that was his. Did he enjoy being lonely?
“But why is there one office” curiosity clicked in, waiting for Johnson to speak.
“He enjoys working in his space alone, that’s probably why. And you know they say this…” Johnson was saying when someone called me.
“Ms Lyon…Mr Castillo is looking for you now. In his office” Tom said sternly. He wasn’t like what happened to him.
“What’s wrong Tom?” he was so serious like never before.
“Indira, you have to stop talking to that man…or you’ll get in trouble. Just a friendly warning. And Mr Castillo is not calling for you” he said and went away, leaving me stunned. Did everyone fear Mr Castillo so much?
I was still rooted on the same spot when I saw two FBI Agents going upstairs to Mr Castillo’s office.
I wonder what they were doing up there.
The nosy me, followed suit. I came closer to the office door when I heard them talking. It was hard to find out what they were talking about, especially when they were speaking Spanish.
“Mr Castillo you have about two months left for you, so, please don’t make this harder than it already is…” A female agent said.
“You know it’s rude to eavesdrop on other people’s conversations” I stiffened hearing a voice behind me.
