Chapter 2

"Seraphina? What happened to you?" My father's beloved partner fell to my side, lifting my head gently.

I still called her mother...she was wonderful and loving.

"Why are you covered in blood?"

"Where is the Alpha? Your father?" She asked rapidly, and I began crying as memories of what happened to him flooded back.

"No! He gave you his necklace? No! He can't do this to me. He can't die now..." She cried, holding me close to her heart.

Had he truly sacrificed himself for me?

I held her tightly as weakness flooded through my body, my eyes slowly closing.

Then I awakened from the nightmare that haunts me even now that I'm turning eighteen.

I find it impossible to believe that everything was just a dream or childhood imagination.

My father, the Alpha, remains nowhere to be found.

All I desperately crave is understanding my true purpose, so that the darkness of those terrifying days will no longer close my eyes to reality.

"Seraphina." my mother called my name, and I responded with a quiet "yes."

"Seraphina!" She screamed as if she was in serious trouble, and I jumped from my bed, my blind eyes searching desperately for the door, only to cut myself on something sharp.

I quickly pulled back, only to fall backward onto my bed and then tumble to the floor with pillows falling over my head.

I hit the hard floor with tremendous force, pain shooting through my entire body.

I cried briefly from the pain as I struggled to stand up, trying to figure out my life situation.

I crawled until I found the door.

Opening it as I screamed my mother's name, terrified of what she might be enduring.

I knew the stairs were next before reaching her location, so I slowly used the wall to locate the stair railing.

I felt the smooth wood under my palm as I stretched out, gripping the banister and using it to walk down the stairs as carefully and slowly as possible to avoid falling.

"Mother! What's happening?" I called out and continued, "Should I call the pack warriors?" since I was still trapped in an atmosphere of torment.

"Seraphina! They took it away! Seraphina!" I heard her crying, immediately knowing she was in some kind of trouble.

Where were those pack warriors when we needed them!

I quickly released the stair railing and used the wall to rush downstairs, only to miss a step and find myself tumbling down the stairs, my shoulders receiving harsh impacts as I rolled until I finally stopped.

At this point, I wished desperately that I could see, but it seems that even those who can't see still care deeply.

I struggled across the ground, searching for the main door and opening it quickly.

"Luna! Where are you? I'm calling the pack warriors if you don't answer me immediately." I said loudly but received no response except sounds of anger.

"What's happening, Mother! Please tell me right now." I said to her, even though I didn't know her exact location.

I called for the pack warriors.

"The pack's strength potion is missing." she said angrily, and I could feel her powerful aura radiating outward.

"Mother, you can acquire a new one. Please stop being angry." I said to her, feeling devastated that I couldn't help her either.

"The potion was specifically created for you to regain your strength and help your eyes heal." she explained, and then I understood why she was truly furious.

I heard her footsteps approaching my direction.

It was those exact vibrations that let me know it was my mother...a strange ability I've possessed since that mysterious day.

I stretched my hand toward her, and she hugged me instead. I hugged her back as we both leaned on each other's shoulders.

"Don't feel discouraged along with me, Seraphina! We have to live through this challenge. We have to survive, okay?" She said like it was a question, and I nodded while arranging her hair.

"I wonder how I'll get that potion remade again. The plants required are extremely rare to find." she said, releasing our embrace.

"By the way, why do you look so disheveled?" She asked, and to reduce the stress already weighing on her, I told her it was nothing important.

"Seraphina, please, you must take excellent care of yourself when I'm not around because I can't always keep my eyes on you, even though that's all I do constantly, alright?" she said gently, sighing as she must have noticed how messy my hair appeared.

If only she knew that I had cut my finger and fallen down the stairs, I wondered what she would do or say about it.

"Your instructor is on his way." she announced, and I sighed with annoyance because I had to endure training from a Warlord who also happened to be a professor, meaning I learned two subjects from the same person because of my blindness.

"Don't make that face, Seraphina. I know you don't appreciate him because he's extremely strict, but if you listen carefully, you'll understand that he's conveying important messages that you must concentrate on learning. As usual, he's also an award-winning professor." She added.

"The award-winning old man you pay so much to teach me, Mother?" I said, and I heard her exhale deeply.

"Don't worry, Mother! I'll concentrate properly." I said as she helped me sit down gently on the parlor chair.

"What's this now? Don't tell me you're developing resentment toward him?" She said, and I looked away.

"Mother, no! His voice sounds pleasant. Please get over it already. I know I'm a blind seventeen-year-old girl. It's my responsibility to make the pack proud by studying diligently." I said in response.

"Who should perhaps have a boyfriend, but it's alright since the Moon Goddess will still provide you with a mate." She said, and sadness filled my heart, but I couldn't show it because it would hurt her deeply too.

"I wish you could see, Seraphina. I wish desperately that you could see your mother's face or that of Marcus, who has been buying you gifts because he loves you." she said to me, and I paused.

"Oh goddess, Mother! Marcus doesn't love me; he just pities how my situation turned out." I said, trying to correct her understanding, and it seemed to work just as a knock came at the door.

My mother stood up and walked toward the door while I connected myself to the environment, feeling the vibrations of whoever was outside.

I knew who it was.

"Oh, Marcus! Welcome." She welcomed him inside, and he walked directly toward where I sat.

"I'll leave you both alone." my mother said and departed, and I felt like catching her even though I knew I couldn't see her.

"I bought you milkshakes and some clothes." Marcus said to me as he took my hands in his, and I withdrew them.

"Seraphina." He called my name softly, and I felt him very close to my face.

His warm breath poured over my cool skin. Truth be told, I loved him, but he couldn't possibly love a blind girl, right?

Or was it because I was destined to be Luna?

I understood that he was a pack warrior and that he was assigned to care for me, but I didn't know why he was so caring. Still, I couldn't judge his motives.

"Marcus." I called his name, and he responded with his voice and minty breath flowing over my nose.

I stretched out my hand as I felt his chest, and before I could remove them, he grabbed them and kept them on his chest.

I traced my hand from his shoulders until I felt his face...he was indeed as close as I thought.

He kissed me, and I was shocked by his action, but it was something I had wished I could do with him for so long.

I moved my palm down, rubbing over his trousers, and he immediately became hard. So incredibly hard that I could feel his arousal, and it was enormous and lengthy!

I kissed him back as he held me tightly against himself, only releasing me when footsteps came from the stairs.

I laughed because it was somewhat amusing, and Marcus laughed as well.

I wished I could see his mature face, but that reminded me that he had a girlfriend.

I shouldn't have kissed him even though I loved him, but wait...he kissed me first. Probably just flirting, and I fell for it completely.

"So how is your girlfriend?" I asked him, and he exhaled, and I could already tell something was wrong.

"Marcus! She didn't deserve to be heartbroken by you." I said to him, getting irritated by the fact that since Marcus was fourteen, he had secretly formed a habit of having girlfriends and abandoning them quickly.

"No, Seraphina, this time it wasn't my fault. She was actually getting engaged in a restaurant where I went to get dinner." He said to me, and I chuckled.

"So she accepted, right?" I asked, and he replied, "Yes."

"It's because you're not serious. Well, you'll surely get a new girlfriend as usual." I laughed, and I'm sure he was frowning now.

"But you loved her, right?" I asked, and he replied, "No."

"So you didn't lose anything. You didn't love her, and she got engaged. You should be happy." I said, and he sat next to me.

"Marcus, what happened a few minutes ago between you and me was just a mistake. I shouldn't have participated." I said to him, and he traced his fingers into mine, making me giggle.

"Seraphina, I've done many things with other girls...fake engagements, paid dating, older women, you name it, and so much more, but now I regret everything." He said, and silence followed.

"Why? I thought it was fun?" I asked.

"I felt terrible because I discovered the reason why all the relationships I entered never worked out was because I'm in love with you, Seraphina." He said, and I slapped him until he moved away from the chair.

"Oh my goddess, Marcus! You're not just a bad-spirited boy but a completely rotten bad boy." I said as I used the chair's pillow to throw at him, and he cried "ouch" as if it had hurt him.

"Marcus! It's me, your best friend Seraphina, who has always been blind, which means a person unable to see physically but can sense spiritual things in her environment, and you claim to love me. Why?" I asked him, waiting for a reply.

"Love is unconditional, love is not judgmental, love is the love I have for you." He said, and before he could come closer, I threw a pillow at him before he could do anything crazy.

"I wonder how you can determine my exact position and throw a pillow at me. That's kind of strange, baby." He said excitedly with a flirtatious tone.

"I am not your baby, Marcus! Mr. Playboy, you need to stop coming for visits. My mother thinks you love me for real." I said to him, and he chuckled.
