An hour after surgery, Ashina finally awakened. Another thing is that the doctors monitoring her baby's progress were astonished by the rapid improvement in the infant's condition. The tiny heartbeats grew stronger, and the ultrasound showed a healthy, thriving baby. It was as if the baby was defying medical odds, and the medical team was both amazed and perplexed.
Just as Sir Ralph had left the hospital, feeling somewhat reassured, Inspector Farcas called him to give him the good news.
"Sir Ralph, I need to inform you that Ashina has awoken. She is recovering well, and the baby is doing remarkably better. However, I advise you to relax until morning.
But Sir Ralph's concern only intensified. He couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off, that there was more to Ashina's story than met the eye. He promptly instructed Boris to turn the car around and head back to the hospital. Boris was taken aback by his reaction but had to obey.
On their way to the hospital, Sir Ralph's mind raced with questions. What secrets were behind Ashina's situation? And what did Inspector Farcas know that he wasn't revealing? He was determined to find out, even if it meant uncovering a web of secrets.
Meanwhile, Farcas, who had been around Ashina, started a conversation immediately as he found out that she was strong enough.
“Hi, I am Inspector Farcas and you are?” Farcas started with a calm action.
Ashina hesitated, unsure if she could confide in the werewolf before her. As she deliberated about it, Inspector Farcas sensed her uncertainty, his eyes filled with a deep understanding.
"Lady, you don't have to trust me, but I can't help you if you don't open up. Your wounds will heal soon, and you need to leave this place within hours to avoid drawing unwanted attention. So, where are you from, and what brought you to Sunset City?" he urged, his voice gentle yet firm.
Ashina understood the gravity of her situation and began to recount her story, revealing the circumstances that led her to the strange city. As she spoke, she noticed something was amiss - her pregnant belly was gone! Panic set in, instantly, she cried out painfully.
"Oh no, my pups, where are they? No, no, moon goddess, no!" Her voice trembled, and she was on the verge of growling, her werewolf instincts surfacing.
Inspector Farcas quickly intervened, his hands raised calmly.
“Hey, Luna, calm down, this is not your Pack hospital. Your pup is fine. Don't attract, people here” Farcas cautioned her.
She calmed down and tried to relax a bit as she sat up and said she wanted to see her pups.
“Luna, first things first, don't call her your pup, call her your baby. If you call her pup, it will bring in suspicion. You will see her soon”.
“What happened? I was expecting two pups, sorry, I mean babies. What happened to him? Did I lose him?”
“I am sorry Luna, he was already dead before a good man brought you here”. Farcas explained to her, tendering his condolences.
“I want to see her, please; I need to see my pup first.” She stood up, about to remove the IV set from her hand.
“No ma'am, please don't do that. To survive in the human world, you need to try and behave like them. A normal human will be in pain for days after CS. So you need to pretend to be in pain”
She nodded realizing that the inspector was trying to help her.
“So you are a hybrid”. He wasn't happy with that, but he believed that it wasn't her fault, so he advised her.
“Luna, the first advice for you is not to tell anyone that you are a hybrid. Wolves here don't like hybrids and secondly, your identity must be kept secret for now. Since you had already told them your name, let it be the only thing you remembered”.
“Why?” Ashina asked.
“It's simple; we are wolves in a human globe, so we live according to their ethics for peace to reign,” Farcas explained.
“Okay, where is the Packhouse?" Ashina asked, her tone dead serious.
Inspector Farcas struggled to maintain a straight face, barely suppressing a chuckle. "Luna, there's no Packhouse here. We live in apartments, work, and earn a living. That's why I advised you to pretend amnesia. You will be placed in a camp or government hostel until you find a place to stay." Ashina nodded, understanding the necessity of blending in.
However, her maternal instincts took over, and she urgently asked Farcas to take her to her baby. He promptly called for a nurse, but just then, Sir Ralph and Boris entered the room. Ashina's eyes locked onto Boris, and she sensed his wolf presence, but Sir Ralph, with his warm smile and concerned gaze, was a mystery to her. She attempted to mind-link with Farcas, and to her surprise, it worked. She queried why she couldn't sense Sir Ralph, and Farcas replied,
"He is human, Ashina. He helped bring you to the hospital."
Ashina's eyes widened in astonishment, her mind racing with the revelation. Human? She stared at Sir Ralph, her thoughts whirling with questions. How could a human have helped her? What did this mean for her and her baby's safety? The room seemed to spin as she struggled to comprehend this strange new world.
As the nurse arrived to escort her to the nursery, Ashina swiftly stood up, IV set from her hand. The nurse and Sir Ralph were taken aback, trying to intervene, but she was determined. She wanted to walk unaided, hiding any sign of pain. However, Farcas quickly mind-linked her, cautioning her to avoid drawing attention and advising her to follow the nurse's instructions. Ashina hesitated, noticing Sir Ralph's concerned expression and his attempt to support her. She relented and settled into the wheelchair provided.
As the nurse pushed the wheelchair toward the nursery, Farcas and Sir Ralph followed closely behind. Along the way, Boris mind-linked Farcas, inquiring if he had explained the situation to Ashina. Farcas confirmed he had, and Boris asked about her reason for entering the human world. Farcas explained the war and her desperate attempt to save her pups, resulting in the loss of one. Boris sympathized with her loss but was relieved to know she had one surviving pup.
The instant the wheelchair entered the door of the nursery, she stood up and started walking about to everyone's surprise. Farcas tried stopping her, but she refused to listen. Then she paused and exclaimed,
“Oh my moon goddess, there are so many of them. They are so adorable, but where is my sweetness? "
All around were staring at her like an alien in amazement, wondering where she sprang from. The nurse and Ralph were worried that she might collapse, but far from it. All of a sudden, she paused, inhaled, and smiled. Then moved straight to where her baby was and touched the incubator encompassing her.
“Oh, my sweetness, I have found you. Oh, you are so cute”. She put her hand on the incubator with a smile caressing it.
People around, including Ralph and the nurse, were amazed by how she located her baby. That instant, the doctor monitoring the baby came around as well.
“Ma'am, sit down please, you are not strong yet,” advised the doctor
“This is amazing, how do you know that she is your baby?” asked Ralph
“Oh dear, you should know that a mother knows her own”. She responded with a smile.
“May I hold her, please?” Ashina requested.
“You can't do that yet, your baby is a bit weak”. The nurse replied, but the doctor said otherwise.
“No nurse, she can hold her, to my surprise, the baby is as strong as a horse.”
The doctor said as he opened the incubator, picked up the baby, and gave her to her mother to hold, removing the remaining tubes connected to her. Ashina held her baby and smiled.
“Doctor, she is not as strong as a horse but as strong as a wolf. Isn't she adorable, hmm?”. She kept admiring her baby. The people exchanged glances, wondering if she was okay.
