What just happened?

I slowly open my eyes, blurred by something warm running down my face, but I can't see. The room is too dark. I attempt to lean up and grimace as another jolt of pain shoots up my back. Nausea hit my gut, and I try to breathe through it, gingerly reaching up and wiping away the sticky wetness. I have to blink several times to focus, holding up my trembling hand when I finally I see it. Blood and lots of it, dripping from my palm and trickling down my fingers. ...
