Her breath hitched when recognition hits her. No... It can't be... Damian didn't specify earlier, he just ordered her to clean up to receive an important Alpha.

He stood tall, chiseled features, piercing silver eyes like frost, a jaw set in stone—his beauty commands attention, but warmth never reaches his gaze. His Royal guards stood behind him, dressed in an all black outfit.

And he just complimented her. Or did she hear wrongly?

She regained herself and quickly averted her gaze from him like it burned her. Bowing her head low, she muttered, Alpha king.

He didn't reply to her salutation. I could sense your fear and nervousness from miles away.His voice was deep, and sharp enough to make one shiver. You are beautiful, if it's the reason why you're so nervous.

Sense her fear? He is the strongest werewolf in the Northern Province Clan after all. So it's no surprise that he has heightened senses.

Amelia couldn't help the small smile that tugged on her lips despite his intimidating aura that was pressing down on her. Thank you, Alpha.

Without another word, he walked past her into the grand hall.

She released a breathe she didn't realise she was holding.

Why is he suddenly here though?

She finally regained herself and walked inside the hall which was alive with activity. The Alpha king was seated by the right side of Damian, and the elders sat by the long table and the maids moved around, serving food and drinks.

Alpha Kade's gaze lingered on her even as Damian was speaking to him. Damian raised his head and summoned her to come over with a fake smile plastered on his face.

Amelia made her way to the front, and took a seat by the left side of Damian.

This is my Luna,Damian introduced and then gave a look that was clear enough to remind her of his threats. He can't mindlink her anymore, since their bond has been broken.

Amelia could see the shock on his face as he looked at her. He obviously didn't recognise her earlier. The last time she saw him was from afar, when she attended the annual council meeting with her father last five years.

She forced a smile and bowed again. Alpha king. It's an honour to finally meet you.

I have heard so much about you. The woman who left her throne for the one she loves and also fought the pack Elders to make sure they accept him as their king,he said.

Amellia didn't say anything because she couldn't tell if that was supposed to be a compliment or mockery. Either way, she smiled inwardly at the hurt flashing on Damian's face like his ego was bruised.

The celebration continued but the atmosphere between the three of them never remained the same.

Damian was restless, afraid that his scheme would be revealed.

Alpha Kade was calm, but his sharp eyes often lingered on Amelia, like he could sense everything going on with her.

Amelia's mind swirled with different thoughts as she could feel the king's gaze. Should she tell the Alpha king? Would he even care about her?

And as if Damian could sense her thought, he gave a knowing look to remind her of his threats. She quickly shoved it aside. He won't care anyways.

She whispered to Damian that she would like to rest in her room due to the pain from the rejection earlier and he agrees. She took permission from Alpha Kade and left the suffocating hall.

The moment she stepped into the hallway, a voice sneered, Well… look who we have here? It's the ex Luna.

Ex-Luna. The words stung her more than she cared to admit. She hissed in frustration. She wanted to escape to her room to take some rest and even that seems like a luxury she couldn't afford. Can today get any worse?

She didn't need to turn back before she knows who the owner of the voice was.

Selena strolled leisurely and stood in front of her. Her face was twisted in rage.

What did you want Selena?She snapped, her patience wearing thin.

Nothing,she purred, her red painted lips curled into a smirk. I just thought to remind you of your place. That you're nothing but my slave from now on.

Amelia didn't let the word hurt her. She knew Selena was probably angry that she couldn't even stand in the presence of such a powerful king.

Hmmmm, is that so?she mocked, tilting her head forward. Then why did you seem so angry about a common slave? Are you jealous that I'm an important asset to Damian and that he needs me by his side to rule this pack.

What?Selena's eyes narrowed in disbelief, her anger palpable.

Amelia was really having the best time of her life seeing Selena so worked up and she wasn't done yet. She folded her arms, circling her like she is a prey.

Selena darling,her voice dropped in a chilling whisper, Just admit that you are nothing more than just a hole for him.Then she stopped in front of her, just so every word could stick in her head. The only thing you're really good at is to be on your knees, on his bed, and him fucking you like a cheap whore.

Selena lost it. You bitch—

She raised her hand to slap Amelia but a deep, cold voice stopped her mid-air.

Slap her and lose that hand.

They both turned towards the direction of the voice and there he was.

Alpha. Kade. Wolfe.

His chest heaved, and his eyes glowing amber, fangs bared. His wolf snarled beneath his skin, begging to break free and rip everything apart.

Amelia and Selena almost jumped out of their wits. Especially Selena who was already biting her lower lips in regret.

He approached them in slow, deliberate steps and stood protectively in front of Amelia.

Are you okay?He asked, his voice stone cold but genuine. He held her arms lightly, his gaze fixed on her as if trying to get the truth from her expression.

Amelia nodded and stepped back a little. His hands were cold yet warm. No one has cared about her or stood up for her in the past three months.

He then to face Selena. What the hell is going on here?He roared. Did you really want to hit your Luna?He asked, the words tasted like poison in his mouth.

Selena opened her mouth but no words came out and at the same time Damian arrived. The elders and pack members already gathered.

Alpha Kade,he said, forcing a smile to ease the tension in the atmosphere. I think there's a misunderstanding.

What misunderstanding?Kade snapped his gaze towards Damian. Are you saying I'm blind or something?

Damian fell speechless. And instead, he glared at Amelia , asking her to intercede for him.

Kade noticed and turn towards Amelia. Is there something I'm supposed to know?

Her throat tightened. She contemplated if she should tell him everything or not. Her eyes darted around—her people were staring at her with pity in their eyes, but then…. Damian's threat.

She swallowed hard before saying, There's nothing going on, Alpha Kade.
