I saw Heather's eyes widen the moment the words left my mouth, she looked frightened. I couldn't seem to curb the impulse that had driven me to make such a statement in the first place. I cursed inwardly. It was infuriating, no matter how fiercely I tried to erect walls around my heart, no matter how ruthlessly I attempted to ignore her presence in my thoughts, I couldn't completely deny it.
