Diego poured wine for two, and shot a glistening smile at his beholder, while he approached her with a glass. “Here you are, dear.” He handed her a glass and sat down to his. “Cheers,” he said.
“To the downfall of Angela,” she mocked and they burst into a laugh and earned their first sip, .She breathed hard and pointed at the documents on the table which Diego stretched his hands to get.
“What document is this?” he asked, anxiously, his eyes scanning through to know what it was all about.
She smirked from cheek to cheek, and gestured at him. “Go ahead and open it. I guess you can’t wait to see what is inside.” She held a contagious smile and watched him unseal the document. And once he did, his brow knitted at the sight of the lettering on the document.
“The ICT contract?” he chirped and widened his gaze to read through, “The contract has been granted! Oh wow! Yes, yes. Thank you so much, honey. This is huge!” his voice trumpeted and he gave her a firm hug, “This is the best news of my entire life, you just alleviated poverty from my life!”
She dropped her glass of wine and held his face, “This is what I bring to the table, and not some barren, jobless medical doctor that folds her arms and watch her man suffer,” she spoke into his face as they locked gaze and peered at each other’s face.
“That is a contract for three million dollars. Gush” his elated voice echoed. “The long awaited contract. You just made my day, honey. For making me happy, I can do anything to make you happy,” Diego stroked her hair.
She took out a piece of pen from her bag. “Here you are. Just scribble your signature and date on it and it is done. The ICT contract is being awarded by my uncle, Ferdinand Coleman.” She waited for him to sign and date it before she caught his attention again. “He gave you this contract because I told him you want to marry me.”
Diego shook his head and winked anxiously, “Just that? Come on, baby, I am going to marry you, not later, but as soon as possible.” Surprisingly, he went down on his knees, “First, I want to apologize for ever breaking up with you. I am sorry from the bottom of my heart and I promise to make it up to you in marriage. Please, forgive me.”
She gazed down at him, and caught his pitiable face. “Come on rise, honey. You know I have always loved you. When you left me for your wife, I knew I was going to come back to your life and when I do you will realize what you have missed. Now this contract is just the tip of the iceberg. Many more contracts are yet to come.”
He stood up and gave her a warm hug. “Thank you, honey. You are the best. You are my destined wife. I have never had such a contract all my life and this one is going to change the narrative.”
She stroked his jaw, “So when are you going to propose marriage to me and make me your wife. You shouldn’t hesitate especially now you have divorced that scum. I don’t want to lose you to those girls of easy virtue on the street.”
Diego chuckled and took her in his arms and they fell in the bed. “Look into my eyes and tell me I, Diego will leave you for these other girls. Come on. I am going to propose marriage as soon as possible. In fact I will love to do it now that Angela is still around so she can be our guest.”
They burst into a laugh, choking on it.
“Well, she is going to be our guest, particularly, our maiden of honor,” she chirped and caught his face, “I don’t know what makes her feel special. Is it because she is a jobless medical doctor? Has she given you a contract worth three million dollars since she became your wife? She can’t even bear you a child.” She took Diego’s arms and placed on her belly. “I promise you in less than one week after our marriage, I will bear you twin children.”
Diego gaped his mouth at her, “Oh , honey, if you can get pregnant for me in such a short time, I will fetch you the skies and make you feel like an angel.”
“I can see you can’t wait to be a father,” she curved her lips with a glistening smirk and began to unbutton his shirt, “Dear, I will make you a father, a fit Angela couldn’t achieve in five years of marriage. Five whole years? Gush, I don’t know why some women pride in their barrenness.”
“Don’t mind that lousy jobless fool, and she has the nerves to confront me in public. I did her a favor by divorcing her, so she can stay alone. That is what she deserves.”
Leona sighed and cursed in her breath, “Come to think of it, how are you sure she is a medical doctor. Factually, I haven’t seen a medical doctor hunt for job. Perhaps, she has lied to you about her true profession.”
“You have a point there,” he concurred with a nod, “I have never set eyes on her certificate. She only told me about it. She could probably be lying to me all these years, you know.”
“Did you say probably?” she reiterated and sighed, “I know many blatant liars like her that hover the street of New York claiming to be high profiled professionals meanwhile they are nothing.”
“I guess I have been staying with a jobless nothing all these years,” he said hilariously and they laughed mockingly and slumped in the bed.
Diego couldn’t believe he had just signed his first ICT contract worth three million dollars. This was a dream come true for him and he was going to make it up to Leona in any way he could.
