The silence after the doctors left was almost sacred.

I sat quietly on the edge of my bed, fingers brushing lightly over my stomach where the salve still lingered, cool and slick against my skin. The echo of the twin heartbeats played over and over in my mind like a lullaby I couldn’t forget.

It was still hard to grasp.

I hadn’t even fully accepted the idea of being a mother to one child. But now, there were two growing inside me.
