I jumped, dropping my book as I heard the door shut tightly downstairs. It was startling hearing such a loud noise in a house that was usually quiet. I sat up when I heard feet stomping and groaning. Ivan must be back from the banquet.

It was really weird though. It was hard to tell whether Ivan was around or not because he never made noises going out or coming in. However, he was alerting everybody within a five-mile radius that he was back. I wondered if he was drunk again. ...
