I slammed the door behind me harder than I should have, my hands trembling as I leaned against it, trying to gather myself. My mind was racing, my heart was pounding, and I felt like I was going to explode. How dare they? How dare they just waltz back into my life like they hadn’t destroyed everything? Like they hadn’t rejected me when I was at my most vulnerable like they had any right to walk in here and start calling the shots again.
