It felt like the weight on my chest had finally lightened, just a little. Axel was recovering. It wasn’t fast, but it was steady. The doctor had given us good news this morning, and I could almost taste the relief on my tongue. It was still hard to believe that we’d made it this far, after everything that had happened, the poison, the desperation, and the fear that Axel might not make it, now we were here. Axel was going to be fine. It was just a matter of time.
