"How much is that car worth?" Selena stared wide-eyed at the supercar that her Volkswagen had just backed into through the rearview mirror.
She asked sheepishly, "Would selling the both of us be enough to pay for the damages?"
Joey blinked. "Huh. I thought you did it on purpose because you couldn't stand someone robbing you of the parking spot."
"Hey! I panicked. I'm not dumb!" Selena cringed when she thought about compensation for the damages.
Joey leaned over, shifted the gear, and pulled the handbrake before getting out of the car. "I'll go and check things out," Joey said.
The owner of the supercar also got out of his car.
He was handsome and towered at a height of six feet and two inches. His black sunglasses were huge, and they covered half of his face like a celebrity. Only his defined nose and attractive lips were visible.
He was chewing a piece of gum in his mouth. He stopped and chuckled when he saw Joey. He asked, "Hey cutie, have we met before? I think I've seen you somewhere."
Joey also found the man familiar. She walked closer and realized he was Zachary's close friend, Kent Simons. Kent and Zachary had grown up together since they were children. Despite this, the only time Joey had ever seen Kent was two years ago.
Back then, she had gone to pick Zachary up when he was drunk and exchanged greetings with Kent.
Joey's gaze quickly fell on the supercar's demolished bumper and Kent's face. She curled her lips and called out, "Kent Simons?"
Kent was surprised. He pushed his sunglasses up and revealed a pair of foxy eyes. He observed her and asked, "Cutie, have we really met before?"
Joey said, "I'm Joey Linton."
Kent thought hard for a couple of seconds. He finally remembered who Joey was and stood up straight in all seriousness. He spoke dryly, "Joey … Zachary's wife …"
Joey didn't say anything further. She glanced at the supercar's bumper and said, "So, about the car …"
Kent slapped himself on the head. "Oh, this is all my fault! I was rushing to meet someone and wanted to snatch a parking spot quickly. It's not a big deal. I'll just contact the insurance agent afterward."
Joey chuckled. "Great. You can ask Zachary for the repair costs."
Kent immediately replied, "Oh, how can I? It's no big deal. You can just leave!"
Joey turned on her heel and left. She looked at Selena, who was still bewildered and worried.
"What are you looking at? Start the car! Let's go to the parking lot at the opposite mall."
"O-okay," Selena answered. She was still in disbelief after hearing Joey and Kent's conversation from the car. She asked, "Aren't you worried that he would tell Zachary about this?"
"I will start worrying after he actually tells him. I just want to get through this afternoon in peace," Joey said with nonchalance. "If we were to be stuck there with him for three hours, we'd lose the deal on top of the money."
Besides, Kent wouldn't take this loss too seriously, considering his and Zachary's relationship.
Joey paused for a few seconds before continuing, "Once we get to Eastwell, you'll be Chloe. I'll be your assistant."
Selena asked in confusion, "Why? You're letting me take the credit?"
Joey rolled her eyes. "Are you dumb? What if Kent actually goes to Eastwell and finds out that I'm Chloe? What if he tells Zachary about it?"
Joey had just said she was a widow with her husband dead!
If Zachary knew she was Chloe, he'd kill her!
Selena was speechless but didn't refute.
The two women parked the car at the opposite mall. They stalled for time to avoid bumping into Kent again. Soon, it was 3:00 pm. They got out of the car and headed over to Eastwell Entertainment.
The receptionist did a double take when she heard that Joey and Selena were from Emmen Fashion. She asked softly, "Are you Ms. Chloe?"
On the way there, Selena was afraid that she would give herself away. Hence, she bought a pair of black sunglasses to conceal her facial expressions.
She lowered her tone and confirmed, "Yes, and this is my assistant."
The receptionist looked at Selena in awe and led them to the elevator. She gushed, "Our president has been waiting for you!"
