Are You Going Broke Soon

Selena gave a professional smile and entered the elevator. She made her way to the president's office together with Joey.

A mischievous voice came from the inside. "Is Chloe here?"

Selena and Joey froze at the door. Kent happened to come out at this time and met gazes with the two women. They stood there dumbly until Selena came to her senses. She was the first to react and said, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Simons. I'm Selena Sanders, Emmen Fashion's boss, also known as Chloe."

Kent shook hands with Selena, but his gaze was on Joey the whole time. He asked, "And this is …"

Selena introduced, "She's my assistant."

Kent almost failed to hold back a snicker. He cocked his head sideways and faced the inside of the office. He teased, "Hey Zachary, are you going broke soon?"

Joey followed Kent's line of vision. She saw a familiar figure on the sofa faced backward to them. She could recognize him from the back, even if it was just a side profile.

He was none other than Zachary. She pursed her lips into a frown. What a small world, huh.

She didn't see him at the the clerk's office but ended up seeing him here. Zachary was also looking at her with an arrogant, judging gaze.

Kent looked back and forth at the couple and laughed. "Oh, Ms. Sanders, I've been waiting a long time for you. Please, come in."

Joey broke off her gaze swiftly and trailed behind Selena as she pretended to be Selena's trusty assistant. Eastwell's and Emmen's partnership was basically finalized. All that remained was the bosses' final green light.

While Selena wasn't Chloe, she had been best friends with Joey for over a year. She knew Joey's ideology toward fashion design as well as Joey's strengths. She could take on any inquiries from Kent.

The contract signing process quickly ensued, and Kent pushed the contract to the side.

He smiled and said, "Ms. Sanders, let's not rush about the contract. Before we sign, I have a favor to ask of you.

"Look, I have a friend who'd like you to design a dress just for him. This is not included in the contract, so feel free to name your price. He just needs it done before our company's fashion gala next month."

Kent and Zachary were the only men in the spacious office. It was painfully obvious which friend Kent was referring to.

Selena gave a small smile as she cursed in her heart.

She managed to give a civil reply. "Mr. Simons, my husband has just passed. I'm afraid the designs I come up with now won't be able to make your friend happy. Let's not complicate the partnership and sour things for both sides."

Once Selena was done speaking, she stood up and grabbed the contract without hesitation.

"It seems that you need more time to think this over, Mr. Simons. I'll take the contract for now. I have something else to attend to. Goodbye, Mr. Simons," she said.

"Wait!" Kent reached out his hand and asked Selena to stay. He was merely asking for a favor. He didn't say he wouldn't sign the contract!

However, Selena and Joey clearly did not feel like engaging further with Kent. They left the office coolly.

Kent had put in so much effort to invite Chloe here for once, and now he had ruined it. He looked at Zachary suspiciously.

"Huh? Joey is Chloe's assistant? Why didn't you ask her for the favor?" Kent questioned.

Why did Zachary have to go through Kent to approach Chloe? Why would he take a detour?

"Did the two of you fight?" Kent continued to mutter to himself, "It doesn't seem like it. Joey got into a small accident with my car just now. I clearly saw her eyes lit up when she mentioned you."

Joey's eyes lit up when she talked about Zachary?

That glint in her eyes was obviously because she wouldn't have to pay for the damages!

Zachary gave Kent an icy side glance and remarked, "Your dad was right for not making you take over the Simons family." Otherwise, the Simons family would go broke from Kent's cluelessness.

That was all Zachary said before he grabbed his coat and left.

Joey sneezed hard after they exited the company. She rubbed her eyes and hummed. Kent and Zachary were probably complaining about her back in the office.

Selena took off her sunglasses and huffed in disgust.

"Zachary Gray, what a jerk! He's not even hiding his mistress now—when the two of you have yet to divorce! I say you're right for wanting to divorce him. You should quickly draw the line between you and that scumbag!"

Selena's personality was always loud and strong. She didn't hold back when she cursed Zachary all the way to hell.

"That jerk was asking his own wife to design a dress for his mistress? He's ridiculous! How could she ever deserve to put on your designs?"

The huge deal with Eastwell was out the window. Selena was frustrated, and she vented by chastising Zachary as much as she could.

Joey smiled bitterly. Selena was speaking the truth, and the truth hurt. However, Joey was over it by now. The most important thing on her list was to divorce Zachary as soon as possible.

"Let's get out of here fast. If Kent comes down here to demand the car repair costs, then we'll have to give him money on top of losing the partnership," Joey reasoned.

"Besides, let's not care so much about those hideous creatures," she concluded.

Zachary came after them just in time to hear Joey's last sentence. His face darkened instantly. Joey had used him conveniently as a shield for the accident with Kent. Now she had the audacity to call him a hideous creature?

She was just amazing, wasn't she? He scoffed in disbelief.

Meanwhile, Joey and Selena were completely oblivious to his presence. The two women quickly entered the car as they spoke. Selena revved up the engine, and they fled the scene.

Selena was still not done venting halfway through their journey.

She said, "Oh yeah, I managed to get the invitation to Eastwell's fashion gala. We'll go together. Since he humiliated you like this, I'm going to show the jerk and his mistress who's the boss!"
