I checked the time on the clock on the table and I scoffed, I'd been waiting for over two hours, propped up against my pillows, pretending to read a textbook that might as well have been written in ancient Greek for all the sense it was making. Every creak of the floorboards in the hallway, every distant murmur, had my head snapping up, my heart doing a stupid little flip-flop in my chest.
