The rain starts right as the sun sinks behind the tree line, a slow, steady drizzle that taps against the cabin roof like fingertips. Scarlett is sitting across from me by the small fire, her knees pulled up, wrapped in one of my shirts. She looks soft… softer than she ever lets herself look around the others. Her hair falls in loose waves around her face, catching the firelight.

She doesn’t notice me watching her.
