I gaped in shock. I could barely feel it when my jaw fell.

Alistair was still facing me, the same serious look on his face. He had to be joking.

Only after a loud bout of silence did I recover. Laughter burst out of me , easing the silence. The sudden heavy weight had dissipated along with it.

What was I thinking? For a brief moment panic had filled me for no reason before I could recognize that it was a joke.
