Chapter 2

Raina's point of view

"You promised me, Luke." I cried out from betrayal as tears ran down my cheeks, my heart tightening in pain as I watched my husband make love to the woman he promised to stay away from.

"Can you blame me?" He questioned instead with a scoff, getting off Jane as I stood there with my mouth hanging open.

I heard a slight Chuckle and turned to see the side of Jane's lips curling into a smirk. More tears rolled down my cheeks and I turned to run out when;

"Wake up Rina, it's morning." I felt someone tapping me and flicked my eyelids open immediately to see Luke right in front of me.

My eyes widened and I reared backwards in shock when my head hit the headboard and I hissed in pain.

"Fuck! Sorry, now get up, you have a job to get to." Luke dismissed easily and I breathed out a sigh of relief.

I raised my hand to my forehead to try and nurse the pain when I realized beads of sweats had gathered. That was how nervous I was. I tried getting up and hit the bed back immediately.

My whole body suddenly felt sore, my sight blurry as my arms suddenly felt too heavy to move.

'Why was I feeling so tired all of a sudden?' I pondered, knowing this had to do with Lucy. My wolf.

We weren't an omega, so we weren't supposed to feel this way, then what was going on?

After a few more minutes of laying around, I finally got the strength to get up and made my way into the kitchen to make breakfast for the day. I lazed around, knowing I was so going to be late for work.

As I broke some eggs into the pan, my father flashed through my mind and I paused, dropping my shoulders. My father, a very great warrior whom I admired so much passed away some years back.

After my mother died, he raised me himself, giving me everything I needed but also training me to be the strongest version of myself, a warrior like he was.

I chuckled bitterly wondering how he would react if he saw me right now. His beautiful, strong daughter now looking so old and submissive to her husband.

"Well then I guess it's a good thing he died in the battlefield, sparing us such moments of shame." Lucy said and I held back a smile.

"Isn't breakfast ready yet?" Luke yelled from the dinning and I hurriedly went about my duties. Ten minutes later, as I was setting the table, I remembered how I had turned like this.

Luke and I weren't fated mates, but childhood sweethearts, who, after years of waiting and saw no signs of their mates, decided to get married and live happily ever after.

Sadly, life didn't turn out that way because Luke changed completely after our wedding. At first, I endured but now I was starting to regret such an action of mine.

First was his nonchalant behavior, followed by tons of debts he was owing. But because he was my husband and I didn't want to leave him to his fate, I had to take on multiple jobs to help him.

I could cope at first but then battle work became too demanding. I am a Beta who became a warrior. I started to neglect my duties due to the other works I was keeping and soon got fired.

Now I was reduced to this and doubt if the warrior inside of me still existed.

"I am so sorry for last night and would love to make up for it." Luke suddenly said as he chewed on his toast and poured himself a cup of coffee.

I was about to take a sip of water when I choked.

'What the hell did he just say?' I wondered.

"It's nothing. Forget it." I told him and he frowned at me.

"Nonsense. I shall not and I insist." He told me and I sighed, remembering how he always wanted to make it up to me but never actually does so.

"It's okay really. Let's j...." I was about to say when;

"How about we visit Alicia's grave together this afternoon to clean it up?" He suggested and I froze, my heart skipping a beat.

"What?" I whispered, suddenly finding my mouth too heavy to say a word.

'He couldn't be serious, right?' I pondered, suddenly feeling a lump gathering at the back of my throat.

Luke raised his eyebrows at me in question, taking a huge gulp of his coffee.

"I am serious. You have always been going yourself for the past two years and I am so sorry I have been too weak-hearted to accompany you." Luke apologized as his eyes softened.

My heart melted especially when he reached over and took my hand in his to sneeze, a slight smile playing at his lips. A genuine one this time that surprisingly made me feel safe.

Tears of joy rushed to the brim of my eyelids but I blinked them back.

'Was the moongoddess finally answering my prayers?'

"That will make me very much happy." I told him and he nodded at me, before continuing his meal while still holding my hand in his.

Another beautiful gesture that made my heart soar with happiness. I suddenly forget about every bad thing he did, somehow seeing this gesture as a new beginning.

Alicia was my daughter who I lost through miscarriage due to too much stress at work. Afterwards, the doctor diagnosed me with permanent infertility.

I always felt Luke lost more interest in our marriage due to this which was why I was always doing everything in my best to please him. After all, he still stayed didn't he?

Knowing I had no one but him. Other men would have left me right away or duped me.

I always went to Alicia's grave alone and cried my heart out as Luke always refused to accompany me.

"Investing too much emotion in a child who didn't even exist will only make me a lunatic like you. We have to move on!" were his exact words that broke my heart beyond repair.

But now, he was healing the pieces slowly because he obviously still cared and believed in this marriage, which was why he was trying to save it.
