“I thought you were in there,” Elena said when she spotted me returning from my run.

I had lingered outside Davina’s door for too long after sounding like a complete asshole. Eventually, I gave up on pacing the second floor and headed for the gardens instead. I wasn’t dressed for it, but I started jogging along the winding paths. I kept going until I burned off every trace of adrenaline still poisoning my veins.
