It was my fault.

That was the first thought that popped into my head the moment I registered the news.

I was a bad luck charm.

I jerked to the side at the feel of someone’s hand on my shoulder. Elena gazed at me with those searing eyes of hers that reminded me, for the first time, of her brother’s.

“I…I can’t… If he’s dead…” I trembled under her touch.

“We don’t know that. We don’t know anything. We don’t—Santo!”
