Carlotta was awake.

She was awake.

My sister was awake.

I was ashamed that my second thought was that my first thought hadn’t been bad.

Did that make sense?

Like, I hadn’t been crushed when those three crazy little words finally processed.

It was proof that I wasn’t a sociopathic monster. I wasn’t disappointed she woke up. I wasn’t heartbroken. I was just happy that she was alive.
