“I love him.”

My voice slipped out before I could stop it, and instantly, my eyes widened, same with my mum’s. Her face froze in shock.

“Who do you love?” she asked, her tone sharp. “Is it Noah?”

“N—” I opened my mouth to say something, anything, but….

“Who's Noah, Mum?” Evelyn cut in quickly, stepping forward into my room, her eyes squinting in confusion.

I didn’t even know what to say at that point. What do I explain? That I love my father-in-law? ...
