"Mandy? Mandy!" He kept talking, but there was no reply. Instead, he heard distant, muffled noises through the phone; shouts, the crunch of metal, and then voices growing closer. Someone was there, but she wasn't answering.

He ended the call and immediately dialed again.

This time, after a few rings, someone picked up. "God, Mandy... you scared the hell out of me," he breathed in relief.
