Lola's POV

He looked at me like I was a stranger. Then he looked away.

I stood against the wall and watched him turn back to the soldiers. Back to the jokes. Back to the easy laughter he had created from nothing.

I didn't move for a long time.

The next morning, I came to the site early again. The soldiers were already gathered outside for their training session.

Morgan was there too, standing at the edge of the open yard with his arms crossed, watching them run drills.
