The club was loud, and music thumped through the floor, heavy enough to vibrate my bones. Colored lights cut through the smoke, flashing across bodies pressed too close together. Laughter rose and fell in waves, sharp and careless.

Beautiful women surrounded me, like they always did.

One leaned against my arm, her fingers sliding over my sleeve. Another brushed my shoulder as she passed smiling, another laughed near my ear and whispered my name.
