When Ryder finally opened his eyes, it felt like the whole room exhaled with me. He looked wrecked—skin pale, lips cracked, eyes heavy with exhaustion—but alive. And that was more than I thought I’d ever get again.

“Amelia,” he rasped, voice torn and rough.

I clutched his hand. “I’m here.”

He tried to push himself up, but I held him down. “Don’t. You’re hurt.”
