Amelia’s POV

The guards stepped forward, hands reaching for me. I stumbled back against the healer’s table, my pulse pounding in my ears.

“Stop this madness!”

The new voice cut through the uproar like a blade.

Dr. Merrick burst into the room, coat streaked with blood, eyes blazing. “Has everyone lost their senses?”

The guards hesitated mid-step. The elders turned, clearly annoyed.
