I got a strange call from the police asking me to come in as soon as possible, their tone clipped and unnervingly formal, like they were afraid to say too much.

"Can I know what it's about?" I asked the policeman over the phone, and the silence that followed only quickened my anxiety.

"We will inform you about it once you're there. Please come as soon as you can."
