The words lingered long after Jay had gone.

Rue had moved away.

I didn’t know why it hit me the way it did—like a quiet stab in my heart. I don’t know why she would want to move away, because that would mean a great distance from me. It made my wolf stir uneasily inside me.

She’s leaving, my wolf murmured. And you’re just going to let her?
