I had imagined this moment a thousand times. In every version of it, Aiden’s expression softened the instant I spoke. His hand would reach for mine, his eyes would lower to my stomach, and something would shift in him. A strong unbreakable bond.

If he knew I was pregnant, Rue would no longer matter, and his attention would be mine alone.

I was carrying his child. How could he not care?
