Evelyn's POV

After the long labour, after the surgery, after the chaos of being wheeled out of the hospital and brought home with more attention than she had ever received in her life, the calm felt almost unreal. She sat propped against several pillows on the bed in her room, her hair brushed back by one of the maids, her skin still slightly pale from exhaustion, but her eyes warm as they remained fixed on the tiny baby sleeping in the bassinet beside her.
