The doctor didn’t sugarcoat it.

“We repeated the pregnancy test three times,” she said calmly, flipping through the file on her desk. “Three different laboratories. The result is the same. You’re pregnant.”

Her words didn’t hit me immediately. They hovered in the air, suspended, unreal like she was speaking about someone else. Someone with a different life. Someone whose body hadn’t betrayed her.
